Raider+Issard=Pickard?

By Corellian Corvette, in Star Wars: Armada

So, we don't see much use of Issard at all, and maybe that is because the imperials don't have a ship that is flexible enough to really take advantage of the information.

But when the raider drops, I am sure that we will see raider swarms of 3+ ships having one with Issard in it.

Heck, I am going to call it and say that the preview article tomorrow will have an example of this, a raider and Issard using that crew slot.

I think that this could potentially be a big boon to imperials. Discover that a ship doesnt have a repair command for 3 turns? Kill it dead! No maneuver command? Tractor it! Find out when exactly they will start flinging fighters/bombers.

Oh, and the comparison to Pickard? Well, he is a popular Startreck general with his own tv show, and it also rhymes with Issard, and provides some clickbait with the title.

Because reasons..

Picard's a general?

I believe that now we have a bunch of low cost raiders and an extra hundred points to tack on, people are going to take notice. I've used her in battles and I find it invaluable to figure out what harmony a whale will sing. If they are running corvettes and no nebulons, wasted point for sure. But who doesn't bring whales? Never happens anymore.

Don't you dare mention star trek. The stormtroopers will kidnap you. o.o

Considering the majority players are Imperial (at least around here!) she could be great. Lots of command 3 ISDs going to be around soon. I think with the ISD and Mon cal, seeing the command stack will give you a great insight into their intentions.

Make it so, number one.

Picard's a general?

What alternate universe is Corellian Corvette from and how do I get there? I'm curious about what Star Trek and other movie, TV show, and novel franchises I enjoy are like there.

For all intents and purposes, calling him a general isn't very far off. Sure, a naval rank would be a little better, but the distinction isn't worth worrying too much about.

I wish we had more clicks on the thingie. ugh. I feel like the maneuver sheet is so limited in armada.

Don't get technical with me!

In a setting like Star Wars where both Generals and Admirals command fleets it wouldn't be as big a deal but in Picard's native setting his fleet uses naval ranks exclusively for officers. And while he does serve as a commodore occasionally in the tv series and movies, and more times in the Trek EU he's a captain and has refused flag rank on multiple occasions.

Maybe that's the point - he's a general in the army. It just never came up.

No, I get that it is an incorrect rank. I still don't think it matters much in this context. I think the misspellings of the proper nouns are more problematic. ;)

Nope, objectivelly spelling doesn't matter, Zues said so. Grammer matters, just not spelling. The fact that I'm good at grammer and terrible at spelling is because I was aware of their relative importance from an early age, and is no way a causal relationship in the other direction.

In a forum world where we have a podcast with its own 'flesh star destroyer'.... To have the discussion of raider+issard making Picard.... Well. It happened a long long time ago. And Picard is really cool... And old. I could totally see him coming from far far away. Lol

And now I must paint a raider to look like Picard not sure how I will make it bald though.

I think she can work well on VSDs to be honest. Because knowing what your opponent planned doesn't allow you to change your command dials, because it's set after the command phase.

She seems very worth it in Imperial lists that will likely go second, that have decent range/speed to adapt and multiple activations to respond to threats.

Picard's a bloke, dude, get with the programme.

Had to do it.

Issard is one of the most underestimated officers in the game.
I doubt we will see Raider swarms though. IMHO Gladiators are too much cost-efficient.

Also, he lets you do the top two commands in your stack. He's the only officer I would ever take over Vader.

On this thought, it will be interesting to see how rebel builds change once Wave II hits. Right now, the whale is the only rebel unit with good broadsides and heavy overall shielding, but the two new wave II ships appear to do that, as well. While I expect an MC-30 swarm to be a thing (much like a gladiator swarm is for the empire), I doubt the MC-30 will totally replace the whale since there will always be a market for long-range kiters/strafers, and the MC-80 seems just a tad too expensive (both in terms of points in the round, and buy-in cost for the model) to phase out the AFII completely. But it will be interesting if the AFII continues to comprise 50%+ of rebel fleets, as it does for many now, or whether fleets with just one (or maybe two in five or six ship builds) will become more of then norm.

I was thinking of buying the inevitable space rocks wrecked raider for X-wing and converting it into a wrecked 'dreadnaught' class vessel as terrain.

I shall be buying 2 of the armada ships for my fledgling imperial fleet though. I find the corvette class vessels to be so cute and cheap.

I tried running Picard in my VVG list... all he did was reduce all ships on the board to speed 0 and start a six hour negotiation.

Game ended 300-300, since apparently peace treaties are worth 300 pts.

Turns out Pickard is not Kirks or Spocks dad, and just some random guy on a spaceship. The more you know.

Hehehe....

No article today.

Maybe they saw the raider+issard combo from this, and currently reworking the article? :D

One can hope, because the lack of article today could mean that they are postponing the reveals to line up with the last two weeks before actual release.
