Hello again X-wing fans!

This week we take a look at the slippery, yet odd, Laetin A'Shera with the even weirder M3A Scyk Interceptor. This builds tries to place him in a long range kiting role to combat builds that rely on gunner and try-again shots. It's not that competitive but fun to try. We can't keep the M3a dusting away in the corner now can we?

Thanks! Summer is over and I'm back to new videos; there is a lot to discuss!

I built a list the other day trying to make Laetin work, as he can counter TLT builds really well if he can evade the first shot. I tried two variants: The first featured Palob with bodyguard, but I decided it make Palob the obvious target. the second featured Serissu and a TPV with bodyguard, which might have potential. However, when I ran some tests, Laetin still struggled to make his HLC shots really count. I am not going to give up though!

Hmm.....will have to find some time to watch the video on my phone while at work.

I like Laetin and hope he works well with TLT's. I think HLC's make him too expensive or much of a target. I think I'd rather spend the extra 3 pts on a Hull Upgrade for him.

I think going with Focus every round should do well enough to keep him alive. Maybe you need it for defense or maybe you use it for your shot. Depends on the match and who is going to shot at you. At least with a medium PS, the aces have fired already. I think firing without a way to modify your dice just needs to happen sometimes. Yes, it's better to fire with a Focus or TL, but staying alive with no damage for another turn isn't bad to keep firing away and using the luck of 3 dice. Sometimes you roll well and don't need a Focus or a TL.

I think that with Laetin, you would need other things to be a big threat that people might forget about Laetin poking around the edges. I also think that the more ships you have you will do well. So....maybe a few cheap ships, like Z-95's and either an ace or a couple of Kihraxz Fighters. These guys are cheap and will do damage, so need to be taken seriously.

Laetin = 30 pts

2 x Kihraxz = 40 pts

That leaves 30 pts to mess around with. Maybe 2 Z-95's? Maybe Talonbane? Or Graz the Hunter?

You could also go with 2 TLT Y-wings instead of the Kihraxz, as well. Put them together on one side and Laetin on the other flank. They can support each other while whatever other ships you use zip around. Force your opponent to go after one option or the other?

It's too bad you can't give Laetin PTL.

We recently had someone in our area win a store tournament with Mangler Scyk and 3 Khiraxz fighters.

We recently had someone in our area win a store tournament with Mangler Scyk and 3 Khiraxz fighters.

I'm going to my first tournament in Oct and am considering one of these two builds :

1. Cartel Marauder x3 and Laetin A'Shera (w/ Mangler), Binyare Pirate
2. Cartel Marauder x3 + Cartel Spacers w/ Manglers x2

I played a few casual games with Laetin and he can be very hard to kill. Once I piled up 5 evade tokens in one turn as he was my only ship left and my opponent just kept taking shot after shot at him.

I like that way of thinking, honestly. We should not simply give up on ships like this; they have a place! TLT is amazing and Laetin works pretty well vs. the TLT.

I think you'd want some support in with Laetin (not necessarily Serissu).

Khirax x 2 w/ Inertial Dampners

Torkil Mux w/ TLT, Recon Spec

Torkil allows Laetin to get the first shot on potential aggressors and creates a difficult decision for the opponent since he can be a real PTA (especially with TLT!).

Glad to see you posting another video, I really like your build vids. The one with Ibtisam got me to play B-Wings after dismissing them as boring ships that just try to win through numbers, and running that quad Y-Wing list brought Y-Wings back into my local meta (before TLTs came out too).

On the other side there are not many options for her. It definitively lacks a EPT slot. I don´t get it why there is none. For example with Lone Wolf you would have a very good flanker (with good offensive and defensive skills). I would definitively play it when with EPT. It´s a pity. Hope for a Scyk fix someday

Given their cost, I always wonder about a mix of flechette and ion cannons - ion plus stress is historically a bad combination, and the cannons are cheap enough to support a critical 5th ship...

While Laetin would be great with an EPT, I don't think he has to have one. The Scyk is OK for greens, but not really amazing. I don't think PTL is required to do so well.

I've always believed that the Scyk doesn't do well as the center of attention. It does very well when it's NOT the center of attention, though.

I don't think he has to have one either, an EPT that is. It is my opinion that Laetin just needs a better field to play in, honestly. His opponent list, with his ability, is rather short. All in all he should see more use with TLTs now, which is nice. As or the Scyk in general, it needs more pilots!

P.S. Pilots we are probably going to get in a SCUM aces pack?

It's okay. I've looked up both Laetin and N'dru and I still keep calling them "she" when I'm playing, even though I know I'm wrong. At least you were doing it ignorantly.

I've been meaning to get around to using Laetin again, but first I wanted to try PtL Tansarii Point Veterans. They were alright, but still tough to use. I put Proton Rockets on them and think "Mangler" Cannons would be better. I think I'll try them again and then I'll try to get Laetin back in my lists. I haven't seen too many TLTs at my game store, though.
