A Question for FFG ...

By iPanterra, in X-Wing

Oh goodie. This topic again. The new ships are sweet including the exclusive pilots and upgrades. The new asteroids are great to have. I needed extra dice.

Oh, and then there is that minor detail of getting an updated damage deck that improves upon the old one. That's really great to have as well.

There us tremendous value in the new core set even from your FLGS. And if things are really tight and you want to break down and get one from CSI or MM then it's a downright steal.

Thanks for the new core set FFG! It's outstanding!

Improved game play. Hah. Balanced critical hits that actually make sense across all ships in the game. Hah.

A stick-in-the-mud-gamer craves not these things.

The game came out in 2012. Three years later they're essentially asking you to buy a new $40 core set to stay tourney legal. On top of which, you get three brand new ships and upgrades, all of which are compatible with everything you already own, and a clarified rules set that doesn't actually change the rules of the game.

That's a good way to look at it. If this were Games Workshop, we would be paying $50+ for the rulebook alone.

Exactly my point. And a rulebook that would likely largely change a bunch of stuff from the previous edition to get you to buy new models.

since when do you have to have the new damage deck for tournament play

See the new official tournament rules.

Any chance you could sell the new release "Damage Deck" individually like your dice?

I don't speak for anyone else but myself, however, I have spent quite a bit of money so far buying the waves and have at least 2-3 of ea ship, Huge epic ship excluded. I don't really want to buy an additional core set just so I can enter official tourneys next year.

Damage Deck Troll is obviously too obvious... he's gonna buy the new X-Wing anyway.

I don't believe I was trolling, in fact I think your comment is rude and I have some choice words for you which is not appropriate in these forums for responding that way.

1, Hobojebus hit the nail on the head there, do you even realise that not everyone wants or have any interest in those (old but has a different paint job) core set ships?

2, I would guess that more than 50% of the FFG X-wing miniatures population is now playing with plastic movement templates and tokens so those card board ones from the new core set will be null and probably binned however we are paying for it as well.

3, I believe the only thing in the pack that would be of true value providing its true will be the new asteroids... and the damage deck.

outside of this I believe its just straight out profiteering.

and if your argument is the new ships they are available on sale individually.

For what it's worth, this is FFG, they really are a solid company. There's a chance you may see those decks sold separately, though I wouldn't bet on it. The people here saying it can't happen were the same ones saying FFG would never allow scum dials for Rebel Y-Wings and Z-95s. FFG did the right thing in that instance.

This however, is a little different, I don't think they want to set the precedent of printing any cards separate from the models, but if any company would do that, it is FFG. I hope it works out for you, it will be a bummer if you have to buy a set you didn't want just to go to a tourney. Good luck.
