Proton Rockets + Tansarii Point Veteran = lose

I've been using cannons on my Scyks for so long. But the other day I noticed I could be putting torpedoes or missiles on them. Why not?

The idea was to get TL + Focus on my Proton Rockets. I've played this list once and it didn't work as well as I'd hoped ...

I faced Vessery, Vader, and Zertik. With Veteran Instincts, my opponent had 9-8-8 for PS, so my Scyks were still firing last. My opponent's tactics were to try to strip my focus tokens so I couldn't fire my Proton Rockets. It was pretty effective. I took a hit-crit in one round and had to choose whether to take the crit to hull and hope to survive, or spend a focus token and just lose my shield. I had Vader at range 1 with a target lock, so I took the crit and didn't die. Vader got taken down to 1 hull.

My other Scyk got vaped before it could release its payload.

In the end, it was N'dru and 1 Tansarii Point Veteran vs. Vader. All 3 were on 1 hull point. My ships were spread out and couldn't focus on Vader. Vader's PS let him take them out one after another.

I think if I had "Mangler" Cartel Spacers, I would have done a little better. I would have had points for Glitterstim on Talonbane and Cluster Missiles on N'dru. Yep, definitely sticking with cannons next time.

I don't think I've ever fielded my 2 Scyks without cannons. Their normal firepower is just so weak, it makes sense to me to use a cannon. Like the "Mangler" idea.

True, the primary attack is weak, but it's no weaker than TIE Fighters. And at range 1, you're still rolling 3 dice. With barrel roll and PS5, I was hoping to be able to position myself to range 1 out-of-arc shots. PTL would give me a focus for that attack. Unfortunately, I was completely outclassed in Pilot Skill.

I think the missile and torpedo part of the title would get more mileage if one of them could be added in addition to the cannon upgrade. That way you could have mangler AND prockets. The way it stands now, the title should be cheaper (one or zero points). Another thing that would have made the title a bit better would have been the coveted illicit upgrade. Besides the cannon, the Z-95 just seems like a better (cheaper) platform in these areas.

Why not use a TP Vet + Outmaneuver? Doesn't rely on the range-1 shot and is useful any turn you're out of their arc. Also only 20pts.

My currently untested Scyk list I have dubbed: Predatory Scykos

Kavil w/ predator, unhinged + TLT = 34

2 TPVs w/ 'heavy scyk', predator, shield + HLC = 33 x 2

I'm going to give it some serious playtime next week (hopefully). I've used the TPVs a few times and predator + HLC allows for some consistently hardcore damage. Kavil lays down consistent hurt too, especially if ignored...

Both are great choices! Since I own 2 Scyks, 1 Predator, and 1 Outmaneuver, I might try two TPVs each with one of those upgrades. I'm excited to try it! I'll probably go the "Mangler" route, though. I love getting in range 1 and using those hard turns.

Have you considered a version with Mux instead of Kavil? Dropping their PS down to zero triggers your Scyko predators. Based on points left you could totally trick him out too.

True. Mux w/ TLT, recon spec, moldy crow, engine = 35. Dropping shields down to hulls on the Scyks makes it work. Not as tough as Kavil though, but definitely worth considering. Thanks!
