Bossk & Boba, BFF

By Bojanglez, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I had been holding off because it reminded me too much of a flying Sandcrawler, but I finally bought the Hound's Tooth and am looking forward to it turning up in the next few days so I've been trying to put together a Boba & Bossk fit.

Below is what I came up with but am looking to those that have flown (against) this ship to give advice on how to spend those last 2 points or how to better allocate the points assigned to Bossk. Critique on Boba is also welcome, this is a build I've run with 2 Scum Y-Wings (with TLT) but only in theory-crafting and never against a live opponent.

Boba Fett (50)

Firespray-31 (39), Veteran Instincts (1), “Mangler” Cannon (4), Recon Specialist (3), Slave-1 (0), Munitions Failsafe (1), Seismic Charges (2)

Bossk (48)

YV-666 (35), Predator (3), “Mangler” Cannon (4), Hound's Tooth (6)

Thanks in advance!

Outlaw Tech for the extra 2 pts on Bossk. Definitely nice to have a modifier when you pull a red and you will with the zero move.

What is Munitions Failsafe doing on Fett? As I understand it, Seismic Charges are not secondary weapons so they don't work with Munitions Failsafe, right? Because you don't actually make an attack with Seismic Charges. It has to say "Attack: ..." on the keyword in order to be a secondary weapon.

EDIT: I am definitely a fan of Recon Specialist on Firesprays. Good choice.

Granted I'm brand new to X-Wing and am jumping right into Scum, but very similar to my first build. I opted to take Engines over the mangler for Boba and crew on Bossk over the Hound's Tooth title.

Boba (51)

Firespray-31(39), VI (1), Seismic Charges (2), RecSpec (3), Glitterstim (2), EU (4)

Bossk (49)

YV-666 (35), Predator (3), "Mangler" Cannon (4), K4 (3), Tact (2), Outlaw Tech (2)

Take Calculation as EPT instead of Predator and put EU on your ship.

Drop Mangler and Predator from Bossk, give him Outlaw Tech and K4 Droid and Calculation.

as a self-admitted newb, I evidently have that wrong and believed it applied to Seismic Charges.

why do you say that? (looking to learn, not being confrontational)

The proposed change helps with your action economy. If you take a stress, you still get a focus token. When you clear the stress, you get a target lock. Being able to modify attacks makes a big difference on your ability to get damage through. With Calculation, you can spend a focus token to get a crit anyway, so you're getting close to the same effect for 6 points instead of 7 points. The difference is that "Mangler" lets you avoid giving the target a bonus defense die at range three. The flip side of that is that you probably won't use it at range 1 because you'd rather have 4 dice.

Personally, I like the "Mangler" Cannon and Predator. It lets you modify attacks still in hopes of getting a crit through and it works even if you find yourself action-less.

What I wouldn't do is add K4 Security Droid while you have Predator because you can only reroll each die once. So if you reroll with your target lock, Predator is useless.

So I apologize if this pops up out of order. New here so I have to wait on post approval. As someone who currently has Predator, Mangler, K4, how would you alter that to avoid the Pedator/K4 pairing? Replace Predator for Calculation and maybe Glitterstim? OR just swap the K4 for a Weapons Eng or RecSpec?

Good question. Well here's the thing, if you have Predator and you roll all blanks against Soontir or Corran, you're gonna wish you had a target lock so you can reroll all of your dice. So it could be okay as a backup plan. But if your Predator is going to cover most of the rerolling for you, you don't really want to spend actions on target locks.

But that's the beautiful thing about K4 Security Droid -- it doesn't actually cost you an action, just a crew slot and some points.

I think Calculation + "Mangler" Cannon is overkill, but it is an option. Glitterstim is a great little upgrade, but it works best if you can make multiple attacks or defend a lot and it works better with more defense dice, so I'm hesitant about putting it on the YV-666. But it does allow you to get focus effects on a turn where you're stressed (even though it means you'll be double stressed). But that's sort of redundant too since you already have Outlaw Tech.

How about "Hot Shot" Blaster? You have a 180 degree forward arc, which is pretty sweet, but with such a slow ship, it's easy for enemies to creep up behind you. "Hot Shot" Blaster can at least give them something to think about.

I like the idea of "Hot Shot" Blaster it just becomes an issue of where to free up that 3rd point from. Maybe swap out Boba's RecSpec for a Tactician. I do like the Calc/"Mangler" combo for Bossk though. It sort of covers all your bases and with the except of throwing all blanks it pretty much guarantees you get to use his ability.
