I need my daily fix of nerd rage, you can't deny me that!
Obsessing over every minute detail is my purpose! Tear apart all that I love and cherish and then ignore any flaws or rationalize them because SW is real! IT'S REAL!

what is this about this laser sling which is attached to the arm of that small rebel scum boy?
It's one of those things that seemed like a good idea until it actually shows up on screen.
At a certain point even the Stormtroopers make fun of him for it.
I just watched it and took a picture on my phone.
Do you mean to say it's hanging from the ceiling?

Definitely a rail system showing there... but is it holding it by the wings??
Oh and they work up to 6 planetar radii per the ANH novelization, which really should be canon no matter what anyone says.
Also: the Revenge of the Sith novelization is so much better than the movie it's ridiculous. Like: it actually explains much of what's going on. I'm shocked by the amount of stuff Lucas must have cut from the movie, and so much of it was great material that answers many questions.
Ah well.
I just realized you can see my bald head reflecting in the top of the TV

I'd say inconclusive. The height of the Stormies nearby imply it *could* be on the wings or hanging from the ceiling racks above. Not certain
Still, it would back up the Rebels stuff if we assume it is on the wings.
But honestly, does it matter? I'm willing to accept that it can land on the wings and has repulsor lifts. They don't have to explain everything.
WAY off-topic, but this is why I like when a show doesn't go out of its way to explain everything. It doesn't all have to make sense, as long as it is within some bounds of reason. If all of a sudden they had a TIE teleporting, then okay, they need to explain that to some degree. But it is reasonable to assume that for various reasons a a TIE could/might want to land on the wings and/or hover and is capable of doing so. Sure, we didn't see it in Episode 4-6, but they never explained how Obi-Wan's Ghost haunted Luke either, yet I don't remember anyone complaining.
@OP, I disagree. So far I am optimistic about the new films/Disney direction. I am hopeful that I will be pleased.

Like Highlander. It was soooo much better when it was just "a kinda magic".
there can be only one! (movie)
Rebels lost me when I saw this laser-sling ... and Ties move like helicopters?
So laser swords and space magic are ok but slings aren't? That's an interesting line you draw there.
Also it's quite natural that Ties would move like helicopters. Repulsor tech would act pretty much exactly like a chopper does.
I guess if they had brought laser ponys and laser combs along with laser underwear you would be happy, too ... because there are laser swords, which make all other whatever crap with 'laser' possible.
Tie Fighters should move like all fighters designed by Lucas. And he designed them to move like WWII Fighters. And NOT like helicopters.
In space and at combat speeds sure they move like WW2 fighters, but even Y-wings took off like helicopters in atmo. Repulsors are a thing. They do not work in space though.

I guess to get an answer on that question you would have to ask Lucas considering that scene didn't exist until twenty years AFTER the movie actually came out.
I mean why in the hell would that many Stormtroopers jut be standing around anyway. God I hate the special editions. Remember back in the day when special meant something different.
Tie Fighters are reduced to the max. Thers not even living support systems. A Tie cannot land without a proper hanger. Do they have landing gears? X-Wings do.
Ties rely to have a base nearby. Its just a ball with an engine and laser cannons.
You can't compare them with X-Wings or the other rebel and civilian craft, which of course can land everywhere.
So what you're saying is, in Rebels (a canon source) when they hijacked a TIE fighter, they then returned to the Imperial base with it, asked nicely to land it, then asked the stormtroopers to load it on a transporter, then transported it to a secret hidden location and asked the Imperials to pretty please not tell anyone where it was, then when they launched it again, they called the Imperials up again and asked their help to get it in the air.
Of course. That's much more logical than it simply being able to land and take off by itself.
That happens a few years before the OT movies, right? Maybe that instance is why they took the landing ability away? ![]()
I still don't know why the Lothal garrison leaves their TIEs out on platforms vulnerable to air strikes or sabatoge but the AT-DP walkers get sleep inside big hangers. My WEG Imperial Handbook said garrisons kept their TIEs inside giant buildings with TIEs safe on the top floor hangers and the Walkers on the bottom. And WEG never got anything wrong.

It's the Imperial nowhere. They requisitioned a proper hanger, but those are on backorder. Stupid Quartmaster has no pull. ![]()
