Overlapping Order of Resolution

By Ardaedhel, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Okay, so I had this one cone up tonight:

My whale has one shield left on each hull zone, and flies into a TIE fighter and a debris field, overlapping both at the end of my activation. Because my opponent wants to stick that fighter facing the zone with no shields, the order of resolution becomes important.

My gut tells me that the obstacle resolves first, but I can't seem to find a clear ruling on it. I'm sure this is answered somewhere in the context of phasing or something, but we couldn't find it.

So... What is the order of resolution? Reference would be appreciated.

Looking at obstacles and overlapping on p.8, I'd say both resolve at the same time, after the maneuver is finished. I'd also say that both effects are yours since they're triggered by your maneuver, even though the squadron is being placed by the other player (that squadron could be one of yours afterall), so you get to pick the order (effects and timing on p.5).

See Lyraeus response below, after quoting the rules for squadrons.

You choose what order to resolve overlaps after the maneuver is executed. So you can tell him to place the fighter then loose the shield.

Thanks for the responses, all!

You choose what order to resolve overlaps after the maneuver is executed.

So, I know this is how it works for overlapping obstacles (pg. 8, I believe; at work atm). Is a squadron an obstacle for purpose of overlapping resolution order?

Look up the rule Overlapping.

Hmmm actually the way it is worded makes me think that squadrons have to be placed first.

"If a ship executes a maneuver and its final position overlaps one or more squadrons, move any overlapped squadrons out of the way and finish the ship’s maneuver. Then the player who is not moving the ship places the overlapped squadrons, regardless of who owns them, in any position around that ship so that they touch the ship that moved. He can place those squadrons in any order."

They have to be moved before the maneuver ends then they have to be placed before anything else occurs.

You always resolve one action throughly before moving into the next.

That's more along the lines of what I was leaning towards, because you'll overlap and move the squadrons before the maneuver is complete, and the obstacle overlap resolves after the maneuver.

Correct. That is how I would rule and run it. R
