Operation Book Ends

Type: Community scenario

Incorporation: « September 2008 »
Authors: Miah999, tokens by Malechi

Factions: Reich vs. Union

Briefing:
The Seven Books of the Dread Spirit were written not to spread knowledge, but to imprison it. The books were written sometime in the early middle ages, and lost soon after their completion. Their author is unknown, but their subject is far more important than their history. The books at first glance seem to be sources of spells and obscure knowledge, but in reality they are a prison for a demonic entity whose name is neither written in the books nor known to history. Separately the books are powerful talismans that grant varying powers to those who possess them. However, combined the books form a key to a realm beyond our own. If anyone were to possess all seven books they would become a vessel for the dread spirit within.

Today the books have been lost for centuries. John Dee claimed he knew the location of the seven books but never revealed this knowledge. However, recently the Book of Hurrying Legs has resurfaced, and despite the Union’s best efforts it is now in the hands of Marquis Von Heïzinger. Within the book Heïzinger found an Enochian cipher that revealed the location of the six remaining books; Leccio Abbey in Italy. The Union must not allow all seven books to be possessed by any one man. However, with the Book of Hurrying Legs is already in Von Heïzinger possession, and the Reich quickly moving toward Leccio to secure the remaining six. The Union will be playing catch up.

Game Board: Ksiasz Castle in the role of Leccio Abbey

Tannhäuser Board Game
Special book tokens

Picking up the books:
Books follow “Capture the Flag Rules” see page 15 of the rule book. Also books may be stolen during hand to hand combat; if the attacker wounds the target and rolls at least one natural 7 then the attacker may take one of the target’s books.

No Union Hero or Trooper may possess all seven books.

When ever a Reich character obtains a book they must give it to Heïzinger as soon as possible, it does require an action phase to give Heïzinger a book.

The Book powers:
The special power bestowed by the book does not take effect immediately; the opening passage must first be read. To read the book a character must use his or her action phase to read the book and activate the power, the power of the book is immediately available.

The Book of the All-seeing Eyes: The character possessing this book may move first regardless of the results of the initiative roll.

The Book of Empowering Arms: The character possessing this book receives a one point bonus to their current combat value.

Well, that's it, all comments welcome. Posting offers also welcome.

cool, i like it, we will try this one tonight, are there any special book tokens or just use what you have,?

Here are my temp tokens not the ones designed by Malechi. But they'll work well for play testing, below is a reference card set (i'm not sure if it is up to date with the current draft of the scenario).

cool, thats excellent thank you :)

An excellent concept and scenario M999

Of course you were missed gui%C3%B1o.gif

Can I take it that returning the book to Heizinger means roughly the following?

"a character with a book must use all remaining movement points to move towards H by the shortest possible path. The next phase they must continue with this movement until they reach H. An enemy character between the book carrying character and H invalidates that shortest route (choose another path)"

Thanks to you and all the others who work as fans for this game

That is a very good interpitation of the rules, I'll include it in the scenario faq or somewhere in the body of the final draft.
