Imperial Y-wing could be coming to X-Wing

By Stone37, in X-Wing

I saw this in target today:

Some tanky turret goodness could be coming to an Empire near you!

I'm unaware of the joke. All I know is I saw a new Y-wing being sold with a storm trooper at Target.

Uhh... That's a clone trooper. Rather large difference.

a) Clone Wars is still off limits.

b) Clone era != Empire

c) No.

Oh, and just because there's a toy doesn't mean it will translate into this game.

Well at least it makes this look good. -_-

I also found a Rebel Tie Defender sneak peak

You crazy, son? That's a perfectly fine looking ship, reminiscent of the prequel-era 'smooth and shiny' aesthetics.

...The hotrodded version looks so much better, of course. But that's another matter. ;)

Now I may be looking into this but I remember reading that this Y wing and our original Y wing are one and the same, just with all the armor plates taken off (i think it said that mechanics couldnt take bolting them on and off all the time and they didnt do much to stop blasters.

Completely disagree. The Clone Y-Wing is my favorite looking Y-Wing.

Clone Y-wing is super nice. They even made a Lego set for it.

and here i was hoping imperials would be able to use turret upgrades!

Yeah check out that Y-wing...

The TCW version is significantly longer: 23.4m compared to the 16m of the ANH X-wing.

TCW one's turret is also different - a bubble turret.

The ANH one doesn't have it - it's a single-seat model:

although there is a two-seater version of the ANH design:

Yeah but then again that explanation is strikingly similar the blue ray edits of the OT.

To be honest the real reason is not useless armor plating but in terms of model designs and lets face it all of X-wing is all about model design. It is much easier to model smooth and flat components of plates and casings instead of very articulate details of multiple assembled components. To get a better understanding on how complicated the Y-wing (not the other abominations using that name like an impostor) check out this video from Adam Savage.
