Lets say Bossk fires a mangler cannon and ends up with 2 crits and 1 hit can Bossk use us ablity to turn it into3 hits and a crit even though he only rolled 3 dice?

Not quite. Bossk's ability happens AFTER an attack hits.... as in after the defender's roll and after results are compared. Right before actual damage is dealt.

Take these 3 examples:

You roll: crit crit hit

they roll: evade evade evade

-Your attack gets canceled out and does not 'hit'. Therefore Bossk's ability does not kick in. Final result is no damage.

You roll: crit crit hit

they roll: evade evade blank

-Your attack hits with 1 crit making it through. Bossk may then cancel your crit that is about to deal damage and replace it with 2 hits. Final result is hit hit (assuming you use Bossk)

You roll: crit crit hit

they roll: evade blank blank

-Your attack hits with 2 crits making it through. Bossk may then cancel ONE crit and replace it with 2 hits. Final result is crit hit hit (assuming you use Bossk)

That crit could've been a Direct Hit, but Bossk's ability deals that double-damage vs SHIELDS as well, making him the only crit-dealer who isn't useless in the early game

Basically, Bossk doesn't make an attack more likely hit, but if it does hit it can do more damage.

To be really clear, bossk kicks in after results are compared and the attack counts as 'hit'. There is no situation where bossk would allow a ship to deal 1 damage instead of 0.
