Holochess, Sabaac, Podracing in Game?

By Starwoid, in Game Masters

Is anyone doing this or giving players the option for those that like to slow things down and get into gaming in game?

I know there are rules out there for Sabaac and even holochess I think but what about podracing?

There are examples of swoop racing in Suns of Fortune, and Cloud Car racing in Jewel of Yavin. Shouldn't take much work to convert that into something that smacks of podracing.

I could see it working something like this:

1. The PCs may place bets as they wish, perhaps with some info about the different participants. One or more of the PCs could even participate.

2. The GM conducts the race, with help from the players. This consists of various checks, varying according to obstacles. Keep track of Successes and Advantages as a means of keeping score. Check out http://talesfromtheedgeoftheempire.blogspot.com/2015/02/lulu-ogrins-inaugural-swamp-skimmer.html for an example of a course. Competing players control their own characters, of course, while others could roll for NPCs.

3. At the GM's discretion, one of the NPCs might cheat.

4. The outcome determines the result of any betting that occurred.

I would convert some techniques/moves from chess to Dejarik, based on the "Kintan strider death gambit" (check Wookieepedia). So the rules of the game is that each player chooses secretly a technique and then revel, and according to this the players make a roll-off. This could turn into a competitive check or opposed checks, with various skills used depending on the attacker's and defender's chosen technique.

Sons of Fortune page 128.

There is a modular encounter called "Taming the Dragon". It is a great working swoop bike race through the swamps and marshes of Corellia. You only need stats of podracer....

BAH.. Pod racing is so old ever since some human child won the boonta eve

Everyone now does swoop racing
