This is why I am going to mod mine, I am waiting on a few turrets to arrive so I can see how they look before sinking in the rest of the money. I like the pop-up panels, but I think I will say that they are the retractable missile launchers.

I found several on shapeways but for now I am waiting on one pack of the Gun Wagon from drop zone commander.

If they look good I will buy more and kitbash them otherwise I will either go through shapeways with a few other turrets I found.

Most ships in most navies pack several different types of weapons though. The raider just has those little pop-up cannons. That's like having a destroyer armed with nothing but machine guns. Where are the missile launchers? The torpedo launchers, the cannons?

Apparently the popguns are just the primaries. I'd imagine the other guns (quads especially) are in the greeble strip along the sides, much like the non-giant turbolaser guns on ISDs are.

The main cannon actually is a tip mounted railgun, specifically used for firing kittens out at hypervelocities.

At least in my headcanon.

Hmmm - gives you an idea how the ship looks without the panels, anyway. Guess it IS a bit...small looking without them. Would need some kind of detail added, there, I suppose.

I couldn't imagine pulling the panels off my Raider, not when they present such a strong visual metaphor:

The Raider is designed to hunt the heavy fighters of the Alliance.

If you want to hunt the falcon, you give the lion wings.
