So - has anyone pulled the panels off their Imperial Raider, yet?

By xanderf, in X-Wing

I go by a code. If you ever have to ask, "Has anyone else" or "Am I the only one"- odds are, you aren't.

Several have done this.

Shall I pull the all the panels off my TIEs (of all varieties) too?!? Sacrilege.

No, the sacrilege was FFG putting TIE panels on a goddamn Star Destroyer in the first place.

If a Raider is a Star Destroyer then I am the Emperor. It's a bloody Corvette.

The wings (panels) such as they are have actually really grown on me, and for a long range patrol corvette make sense in supplementing it's fuel source.

When elements of the 128th Recon assisted the Imperial Exploratory Corps in operations, the Huntress made a fine base of operations for Eclipse squadrons first flight group. (BECAUSE FLUFF MAKES GAMES COOL).

If I ever buy the Raider it'll be the first thing I do. I'll just attach some cannons on the wing mounts.

Why? And what is an anti-fighter ship going to do with massive cannons?

Shewt moar stuf

Still not enuff dakka...

Still not enuff dakka...

Never enough dakka!

"At the point in time when bullets can pass through the interdimensional walls. When firepower takes up the entirety and eternity of space and time, all being stuck in a neverending life and death cycle as bullets recover and destroy their bodies in quick succession. No one is able to think about anything but the sheer force of the bullets rapidly flying literally everywhere in the materium turning the warp itself into nothing but a sea of semi-automatic weaponry.. Then there will be enough dakka. Or, at least almost."

And the Executor is a Dreadnought. And an Immobilizer 418 is an Interdictor Cruiser. They're also all clearly still Star Destroyers.

The Raider is a baby Star Destroyer, and putting TIE panels on ANY capital ship is still hella ****ing dumb.

Executor class Star Dreadnought, nicknamed the Super Star Destroyer.

an Interdictor is an Interdictor, based on the Vindicator Cruiser, which is not referred to as a Star Destroyer.

Improved operational range and efficiency is never hella dumb. At the very WORST those panels are ablative armour, at best they could be an extra week or two's fuel before having to RTB.

Now what I want to see is someone take the side panels off of their Raider and attach them on to a Tie Punisher. Somebody make it happen.

The TIE Overcompensator?

I lost my final game to a deci that had the wings of a raider on it

Since I use turbolasers on mine, I'd put proper turrets on it ... but I'm not a handicrafter.

If I could get my hands on nifty turrets ...

A ship should have some options to deal with other threats.

In most navel/fleet battles... Ways to deal with "other threats" are... Having another bigger ship with you DESIGNED to deal with those "other threats." Multi-purposed ships are less effective.

It's like Spaced Armor on Tanks. You hit the panel, takes some punch out of the shot, or deflects the shot completely [even if it goes through.] Granted, these are lasers, and sci-fi space physics which I'm sure we all have degrees in! =P I don't think it's dumb at all.

That...sounds kinda badass. I would have liked to have seen pictures of that.

I mean, it already has the cockpit of a TIE.

That would be my operating assumption, yes. However, I'm curious to see what it looks like, before deciding on doing it, myself.

I'm sure someone HAS. Indeed, this thread confirms it - but I can't seem to find any pics of the ship post-removal, anywhere.

Yeah, actually, that really DOES sound kinda cool.

Know who it was, or where pics of it might be found?

My port side panel was curved down. I plan on taking it off; melt it the opposite way a little and reattaching it.

I exactly had to to this, but I forgot to take any pictures. I re-attached the panel with plastic glue.

Beside the extremely curved panel I noticed that the two small pegs which hold the bottom panel differ in length significantly which leads to a quite bad look. I really like the ship, but for me it is the worst ship when it comes to quality control in the factory

I believe it is from our fellow member Tvayumat.

The real questions about the raider is why are there no belly weapons and side windows on the bridge.

Imperial Officer: "Sir, the rebels are attacking us from our sides. It has been confirmed there was a design flaw on this corvette, we are completely blind."

Hypothesis: There are, but their panels are not popped on the model, therefore the model is assuming combat on an even or lower plane to it's target.

I hope SOMEONE releases stats regarding crew head count, deck space, ability to dock and stormtrooper complement on one of these things...

I'm able to locate the docking rings on both the raider and the Decimator, just want to know if it can land, store ships etc.

I had to take one off because the factory didn't push it in completely. It had a very noticeable gap so I broke it off and dug out the plastic post in the body and re-glued it and it looks fine now. The panels don't bother me....except when they aren't applied correct.

....

It also probably would be a good idea to not paint the weapon panels a different color. Dead giveaway for a target.

Also one would think, what with it being a space ship and all, that you could see out without needing windows.

I'm pretty sure Star Wars has image recorders and displays.

Most ships in most navies pack several different types of weapons though. The raider just has those little pop-up cannons. That's like having a destroyer armed with nothing but machine guns. Where are the missile launchers? The torpedo launchers, the cannons?

This is why I am going to mod mine, I am waiting on a few turrets to arrive so I can see how they look before sinking in the rest of the money. I like the pop-up panels, but I think I will say that they are the retractable missile launchers.
