making a techpriest

By waaaghboss, in Dark Heresy

Thinking about making a tech-priest for when my psyker bites the dust. Ideas, suggestions, etc. all welcome. Right now I just know I want to make a tech-priest, and I'd like him to be very combat-capable (rest of the group sucks at fighting so it's usually up to me to save the day). It's also be nice if he could get a decent amount of healing capability, since we have no healer as it is now.

I keep seeing people around here say "Oh, I saw a monstrouly-optimized techpriest that can one-hit the Emperor!" (ok, may be exaggerating just a tad) but they never go over how it's done that I can find. So if you want to do some tech=priest optimization, this is the place.

There are a couple of things you might want to have a look at: The alternative rank Mechanicus Secutor is probably the most important one (lots of combat related talents and the Machinator Array). Then there's the Helot augmetic which gives you a powerful melee weapon and another stat upgrade. If you by some chance are able to afford it, get the Dragonscale Armour and as many different weapons you can get your mechadendrites on.

Those would probably be the main things... you'll be a walking tank, though you'll also be rather sluggish.

I would also like to see this optimized Tech-priest that I have seen people mention.

Yeah, I saw someone talking about a melee-optimized Secutor, but when i tried making one myself it didn't seem terribly viable.

Tip:

You take VOLG Hiver as origin, get 25 base Tougness, try to get to 40 eg. roll a 15, if you have any houserules concerning rerolls, spend them on the tougness roll to get to 40.

Get Secutor Package

Get Mining Augmentation

Take all Advances in Toughness (really cheap)

Get as many Cyberlimbs as possible

With that you get 80 Tougness and + 20 Strength (8 TB) and +2 TB on cyberlimbs, thats more TB then other characters will have TB and armor combined.

You can add 8 Mechandrites and put normal Pistols and Melee Weapons on Ballistic Mechandrites.

Your weak Point will be your AGI (-15), not that you need to dodge anything, but your movement will suck ass. You can somewhat make up for that with drugs (Slaught)

Next step is Dragonscale Armor etc

My Techpriest followed that recepee and is now rank 8. Friggin IMPOSSIBLE to harm, attacks 3 times with a melee weapon and a fourth time with his drill for 1D10 + 11 Tearing,

Also you will have so much TB and ST Bonus, that you will be able to carry really heavy stuff around. I think my character can carry 200kg without penalty. Get Bulging Biceps, get an autocannon. Have fun.

I would use the Mind Cleansed to start. Then using 2 Orthlaks with ambidextrous or an Vanaheim till rank 4. After that of course going Secutor and get the Machinator Array with a Utility Mechandrite ( for blocking) and at least a Gunmechandrite Flamer, Bolter and Melter( maybe 2 Orthlaks if your GM doesnt allow to rebuilt Bolters for Autofire) . Next step would be to aim for the Bracing Talent and an Assault Cannon ( look at all the Heretek or Tech Priest pictures :) ). The rest is like personnel preferrence but Dragon Scale, a Powerfist, any kind of Forcefield, Gunskulls or Battle servitors, Hermetic Infusion ( in Good Quality), Fearless, Mental Fortress, Dodge, Hard Target and Hexagramatic Wards are longtime goals who certainly dont hurt to aim for.

The only problem is you cant be working low profile operations anymore, or you have to stay hidden in a vehicle only interacting with servoskulls in these missions.

I like the concept of this character , if like a more melee based Secutor try to get Hard Target and Dodge as soon as possible and still equip some Pistols on mechandrites even if your mainly using melee weapons.

Why Mind-cleansed, as opposed to volg hiver or similar?

The main difference is that you most likely get 1 Fatepoint more instead of the switched toughness bonus. Also you get that Failsafe Control that can be a serious drawback or a nice Story Hook ( depending on your GM). And if your bored you can get those Flashbacks (and make a nice background story step by step). You get a 10% bonus against mind control or fear tests.

It also doesnt state what World you are from, so you could choose Feral, Imperial or Void (even Volg but if i would try that, my GM would smack me with the Core Rule Book :) ) for your Mind Cleansed charakter.

MInd Cleansed counts as your world, can't combine it with Hive Worlder.

Yep i didnt read till the end of the chapter, with the table for the characteristics.
