The Riddle of Stele !

I've come up with this enjoyable list to counter the still current meta in my area for 2 ship builds.

Maarek Stele ( Tie/X1+Adv.Targeting Computer+PTL+Ion Eng.MKII)=32

Carnor Jax (Royal Guard+PTL+Autothrusters+Stealth or Hull not sure yet)=34

OGP+Emperor Palpatine +Enhanced Scopes+Engine upgrade =34

i think this list will tear Chewie/Leebo, Double Deci and maybe even Dual IG lists up ,

thoughts?

If you just want a crazy bastard flying around murdering people, Soontir Fel can handle that better than Maarek.

Darth Vader is a superior pick over Maarek too. Not receiving stress tokens from double actions and having a higher pilot skill is more important that Maarek's ability.

For 32 points you could have a Pilot Skill 11 Darth Vader with Vet instincts, ATC, and Ion Engine mkII.

For 34 points you could get Darth Vader with ATC and Engine Upgrade, now he can zip around all over the place.

If you are going to have a Lambda shuttle in a list with Carnor Jax, find the points to include Sensor Jammer. It lets you change a hit over to a focus icon that can not be rerolled, and of course Carnor won't let them spend focus tokens. Expect the shuttle with the emperor on it to get torn up quick, Sensor Jammer helps it survive a little longer.

Also, Leebo with Determination will laugh at your crits. Especially with Maarek's ability.

While I agree that Vader is overall better than Maarek, there is one good reason to run Maarek: Advanced Homing Missile. An early unavoidable crit could really help give you some momentum to destroy a ship quicker than you might otherwise, and its something Vader is simply not capable of (unless he's a crew, but even then, not quite as unavoidable). So I would definitely add that if you plan on using him:

Maarek w/ x-1, ATC, PtL, TIE mk2 & Adv homing = 35

Lambda w/ Palpatine = 29

Jax w/ PtL, title, autos & hull or stealth = 34

For the last 2 points, you could either go with FCS or anti-pursuit lasers/ion projector on the shuttle...

Shuttle without Engine Upgrade is going to handle like a bus.

And Maarek Stele is still only piloting skill 7.

Maybe you'll get good results, but I'm not sure what it can do against a quad Y-wing list, or a trio of 3 PS 8+ Interceptors.

This is the sort of list that is not for the faint of heart. It lives and dies by careful piloting----you make a mistake and you lose the game (most likely, anyway).

So yes, it has some weaknesses but none that are insurmountable. High PS interceptors have to kill Maarek first (meaning you have palpatine for longer) and Jax nullifies one of their big advantages if he can get close (stacking tokens) so this is a scary list to face for other finesse type lists. Maarek is also frightening for any a-wings, e-wings (Corran horn!), and whatever else has only 2 hull. Quad y-wings will be rough on Maarek, but he should get 2 rounds of fire before dying, which means one dead y. Jax has to kill the remaining 3 (and if your shuttle can stay alive long to kill a 2nd y-wing, that's actually do-able, believe it or not).
