Am I required to have a physical copy of the upgrade card for each ship with that upgrade? For example, if I take push the limit on 3 ships am I required to have 3 physical copies of push the limit or will one physical copy be fine as a long as I have access to that card? I am asking specifically for tournament play. I'm still new to the game, but I looked at the relevant rule PDFs but I didn't see it mentioned. Appreciate it.

for official events, yes
for casual play, depends on whoever your playing against I suppose
In tournament play you need as many copies of the upgrades as you have equipped. In non tournament play people are usually cool with proxies.

Can you provide a page number for this? I couldn't find it.
Tournament Rules page 4
Each player must submit a squad list, including all associated Upgrade cards, total squad points, and obstacles to the tournament organizer before the start of the tournament. Players must use that squad for the duration of the tournament. Each player must bring all components needed for their squad and games. This includes (but is not limited to) dice, a range ruler, maneuver templates, and a complete Damage deck. The TO is not expected to supply any game components to players

and also page 6
Only official Star Wars: X-Wing™ Miniatures Game components are legal for use in tournament play. Proxies of cards and ship models cannot be used. Third-party tokens, range rulers, and movement templates may be allowed at the head judge’s discretion.

I gotcha. But doesn't having 1 physical copy fulfill that requirement. "All associated upgrade cards" doesn't specify one for each squad. Sorry for nitpicking, but I feel like it can be read either way.

We are not talking about proxies, which I assume means text written on notebook paper or something. I'm just not sure why I have to have 3 copies of the same card, with the same text, when a single card would work just as well.

No, you must have all of the cards, ships cannot share upgrades.
That's silly. I appreciate the help.

"So, Tycho has PTL and Juke, Jake has PTL and VI, and the GSP has Juke and VI."
Representing who has what here without multiple copies of each card is a Nightmare. Discard-able cards (Munitions, most Illicit Upgrades, etc.) are also not practical.

Perhaps - consider this - if a game effect says you need to flip a card face down - or lose the ability to use one of your upgrades, how do you demonstrate that you've done this if you're using a single upgrade card for multiple ships?
FFG and (to a lesser extent your FLGS) have a vested interest in seeing that everything that is being used was bought and paid for.
Edited by Rodrigo IstalindirIt's because sometimes the cards attached to each ship might be flipped upside down if an effect destroys an upgrade. For instance, if you only have 1 stealth device card for all your ships (gain an extra defense die, but the stealth device is discarded after the first time you are hit), it can be hard to tell at a glance which ships have been hit and lost it.
Points are tallied at the end of the game based on a destroyed ship and what upgrades were attached to it.
They just want to make it easier to tell how many points a ship is worth at the end. Tournament rounds end after a set amount of time, so you might not be able to destroy the entire enemy squadron. You tally up the points of destroyed ships to determine the winner.
When my brother and I play we just print our lists from Squadron builder and don't bother pulling the upgrade cards out of binders. Saves a lot of time on setup.

This and all of the previous replies make more sense. Thanks for setting me straight.
