what are the Cons to using magnets

By Wayne Argabright, in X-Wing

As in do they make actual ship movement during game play harder to accomplish smoothly? ( have kind of witnessed this) I mean no doubt they look cooler particularly on B wings.. just wondering if anybody else has encountered unexpected problems with magnets?? just kind of doing a cost benefit analysis!! lol

Its nice if you can be bothered.

Some ships have poor centre of balance and magnetise badly , like the tie advance.

Also if you can be bothered to reposition the ships in game its great otherwise they can look really odd doing a 3 turn to the right while on their stand they are diving in the other direction.

Urban Cannibal my regular opponent does it, he likes it. Me i can be bothered. I think B wings look better if you just repostion the cockpit and mount them on the stand pemanently at 90 or 75 degrees or whatever.

I've never had more than one peg snap on so cant even buy into the 'its sturdier' argument.

I think magnetising is probably brilliant if you want to take a lot of cool in game pics etc as it makes them look less static and you can set up great poses.

If you do it wrong, they flop all over the place and you never know which way they're really pointing.

I've used magnets to fix a firespray and HWK who's peg inserts cracked. It worked great although it was kind of a pain to do, especially the firespray which required a ton of dremmeling to do it.

I can see the attraction to using magnets, but sometimes moding things can be repelling.

I've magnetized all my ships twice. Once with flat disks, and more recently again with balls. The biggest downside is actually doing it. It's a time consuming process, and for the love of the Force, get some latex gloves or something if you're gonna super glue them on.

I'm glad I did it though. It makes set up and clean up a lot easier, plus it's just cool.
