How many different ships from episode 7

By cert13, in X-Wing

How many different new ships will we see from the new movies? Episode 3 gave us the base for the game; x-wing, y-wing, falcon, tie, advanced, outrider (special edition), star destroyer, blockade runner. Approximately 7-8 ships depending on your point of view.

Empire: tie-interceptor(or Jedi), tie-bomber, imp shuttle, slave 1, all the rebel fleet filler

Jedi: a-wing, b-wing, tie-interceptor, super star destroyer, imp and rebel fleet fillers.

Episode 7 has shown so far tie-fo, tie-special forces, new shuttle, imperial transport, t-70, new dish falcon and new star destroyer. Where are the rest of the new ships?

Yes the rebel alliance was using some very old ships the y-wing being a clone wars Era ship, but where is it now? Every movie usually gave a more balanced base for each faction except Empire which was showing the Empire's might.

So just how many ships can we hope for? I still have hope for an updated y-wing or a new mid bomber, a filler scum fighter, scum freighter(Falcon isn't the only one in the galaxy), new/updated bounty hunters.

Enough for a few more waves as FFG waits on Disney to release Episode VIII. ;)

Lots.

The last 15 minutes of attack of the clones was full of new vehicles, it's like they tacked an extra long toy advert onto the end of the movie.

I expect Disney to have similar sales targets, each movie must contain X amount of new things that can be sold as toys.

The Wishbone was one of the most versatile combat ships in the galaxy - while it might have only excelled in a few roles, there wasn't much that it wasn't at least proficient at.

I can totally see the Wishbone remaining in service - the galactic civil war may have even served as an advertisement for the venerable old ship and generated sufficient interest for Konesayr to begin production of an updated model.

I seem to recall ANH (otherwise known as Star Wars) introduced a lot of ships in the last 20 or 30 minutes... X-wings, Y-wings, Vader's X1, as well as the turbolases on the Death Star. That's like almost half of all ships in the movie! Talked about rushing the toys into the film!

willl be reading the new books shortly hoping to glean some new info...

Shoot, we still haven't exploited all of the OT ships possible ... I still want T-16s, T-47 Snowspeeders, and Bespin Cloud Cars.

T-16s are a possibility since they can be fitted for space duty, and cloud cars can be viable if we assume a dogfight in the atmosphere of a gas giant, with the proper playmat of course.

Revising your OT ships, TESB SE had the Lambda, but it also had the TIE shuttle which isn't in the game (yet). Executor class star dreadnaught (SSD was the old, erroneous designation) was in Empire as well. And you forgot to mention the space blimp rebel transports! The worst omition is that there is no Space Slug in the game, or mynocks. We got big rocks, so why can't we have a special rule that if you are overlapping a rock in the end phase you roll a red die: critical is attack by space slug, no maneuver or attack next round, roll again in the end phase; hit is mynocks attach to power cables, att and Agi are -1; focus gets rid of mynocks or slug. I'm sure someone (anyone) else can think up better rules for this, though.

Wouldn't y'all love to see mynock and slug tokens!?

Space slugs and mynocks would be awesome!

Personally I'm a little dissapointed Ep VII is just giving minor updates to the X-wing and TIE fighter. Are we to believe star fighter technology stood still in the 30 years between Ep VI and Ep VII?

Sooo...pretty much how normal military development goes. Design, test, build, upgrade for the 40 years.

I'm glad it's updates to iconic ships and not more EU crap. Good the terrible XWING variants....

scum freighter(Falcon isn't the only one in the galaxy)......

already got one - YV-666 Light Freighter

I doubt tech has stood still in 30 some years, but I think we have seen these two ships mainly because of them being framilure. The atmosphere ships were excluded as they are not space fighters. I really hope there are more ships for this movie but they are being kept on the down low. Some how I just cannot see Luke giving up on his t-65.

Technology in Star Wars has always kind of hit a level where its stagnant. But its clear that both the X wing and Tie designs have been revised, and improved in terms of maneuverability and are better constructed. The designs are really effective at what they are supposed to do. Real world fighter jets have more or less kept the same silhouette for the past many years.

What is "normal" military development in the SW universe though? I'd say its unfair to compare vs. the real world. So far the precedent set in the past 6 movies is to see several new ships in short amounts of time (example: X-wing, A-wing, B-wing, and TIE interceptor were all developed in the ~5 years surrounding Episodes IV-VI).
