Brief After Tournament Report

By Edsel62, in Star Wars: Armada

Just won the local tournament, scoring 23 of 30 points, using the following list:

Rebel (298 Points)

Assault Frigate Mk II B

General Dodonna

Flight Controllers

Expanded Hanger Bay

Advanced Projectors

Assault Frigate Mk II B

Adar Tallon

Flight Controllers

Advanced Projectors

Keyan Farlander B-Wing Squadron

B-Wing Squadron (x3)

A-Wing Squadron (x3)

Objectives: Precision Strike, Contested Outpost, Minefields

Round One I was the second player in a Minefield Objective. My opponent was:

Assault Frigate Mk II A

General Dodonna

Paragon

Corvette CR90A

Tantive IV

Corvette CR90A

Dodonna’s Pride

Corvette CR90A

Jaina’s Light

A-Wing Squadron (x3)

Tycho Celchu A-Wing Squadron

Inexperienced player rushed too close with corvettes and the B-Wing squadrons dispatched one of them on turn 1 and another on turn 2. My 3 A-Wing squadrons, with the benefit of Flight Controllers & Squadron Commands destroyed the 4 enemy A-Wings including Tycho, I lost 2 of my A-Wing Squadrons in the exchange. Hard to remember too many specific details, but I lost only the two A-Wing Squadrons. At the end of 6 turns I had a Margin of Victory of 98 points thereby netting an 8-2 victory.

Round Two I was again the second player and the Objective was Contested Outpost. My foe was:

Victory-I Star Destroyer

Admiral Motti

Warloard

Weapon Liaison

Assault Concussion Missiles

Victory-I Star Destroyer

XX-9 Turbolasers

Assault Concussion Missiles

Weapon Liaison

Gladiator-I Star Destroyer

Demolisher

Assault Concussion Missiles

Weapon Liaison

TIE Fighter Squadron (x1)

TIE Interceptor Squadron (x1)

My A-Wings and their Flight Controller made very short work of the two enemy squadrons. The Gladiator started out at speed 3 and managed to clip an Asteroid. Thanks to General Dodonna this critical was an Engine Rupture. My opponent seemed scared to lose his Gladiator and went too far around the flank and was unable to close effectively. He took two more points of damage before he managed to get and engineering command and repair the Engine Rupture. In the meanwhile his Victory Star Destroyers tried to close at speed two but I managed to out maneuver them while managing to keep my B-Wings in command. The B-Wings, with a little help from the A-Wings and the two Assault Frigates destroyed both of the VSD’s in the meanwhile I picked up 5 tokens for a 100 point bonus for controlling the Outpost. Only the enemy Gladiator survived the battle but I still won 322 to 0 in Victory points for a 10-0 Win. By the way this opponent finished 2nd in the tournament.

For round 3 I was again the second player and the Objective was Minefield again. My opponent was:

Assault Frigate Mk II-A

Gram Bel Iblis

Weapon Liaison

Gunnery Team

Enhanced Armament

Paragon

Nebulon-B Escort Frigate

Salvation

Engineering Team

Veteran Captain

Corvette CR90A

Dodonna’s Pride

Luke Skywalker X-Wing Squadron

X-Wing Squadron (x2)

The enemy Corvette blundered too close to my B-Wings and died swiftly. My A-Wings with Flight Controllers tangled with the X-Wings including Luke. Both sides were mutually annihilated but one of the X-Wings survived with a single point of damage. My A-Wings took some additional hits from the enemy's Mk II-A which was rolling hot. The enemy Neb-B managed to survive a pass at my fleet and zoomed out of range with some pretty serious damage. Likewise his Mk II-A got a round of B-Wing attention and got hurt pretty badly. However he got close with Paragon and, using double arc and a Concentrate Firepower Command rolled (4 Red, 2 Black and 1 Blue die) 2 Accuracy and 9 damage. My flagship had 3 forward shields but was too close to Evade and with my Redirect and Brace disallowed my nearly pristine ship died in a single spectacular die roll. After this the two damaged enemy ships were moving too fast away and the fleets were not able to re-engage before the end of turn 6. This match ended in a 5-5 draw but the enemy had 14 point Margin of Victory.

My B-Wing strategy worked pretty well. The 4 Squadrons led by Farlander were able to do the lion's share of damage in killing a total of 3 CR90A Corvettes and a pair of Victory-I Star Destroyers. They also did significant damage to an AF Mk II-A, before it could outrun them.

Good read, thanks for the update.

Yeah good write up!

good to see B wings getting a good run

I am not sure how I feel about keyan. . .

His ability is great but. . . I am not convinced it is great with the best part of squadrons atm. . . He will be AMAZING when we have to deal with larger ships. . . I guess it works when he is the last one to activate. . .

Good to know a 2 ship build can last if played well. Although, it sounded like your opponents didn't always make the best decisions.

I've been working on a 2 VSD carrier build... that thing is nearly impossible to beat it seems. Sounds like you flew a Rebel equivalent. Good work!

Nice tournament report. Way to go B-wings!
