I'm not going to sugarcoat my opinion, this is literally the worst idea i've heard regarding the new core set.
You must have missed "Fix The T-65 By Giving It A Title That Turns It Into A T-70", then.

I believe that Star Wars Episode 7 ships should not be in the X-Wing game. (Though I believe the FFG had no choice in the matter!) These ships are separated in time from the OT as the OT is from the prequels. There are many more ships from the same era that could be explored. To me, it’s like playing a WWI air combat game using WWII air craft. What is everyone opinion?P.S. Should be it's own game.
FFG has already made some bold moves in my opinion in slitting the license up into many different brands ( Armanda, Imperial Assault). This gamble has paid off big as both games have been successful. Starting a whole new game in the flight path system for episode 7 ships is just plain silly.
Now that statement about FFG having no choice in putting episode 7 ships in X-Wing......... You truly believe FFG would even consider not jumping on the marketing juggernaut of a new Star Wars movie release. I would be willing to bet it was FFG that approached Disney to include the new ships .
uh-huh, and how different is it really?
Quite different once you actually look at them closely.
Since everyone is so hung up on the look of the FO tie fighter, has anyone figured out any ideas on how to add the little sensor/comm antennas to the right shoulder of the cockpit? Even in the card art in the starter set they all have the antennas...so we know its not just the special forces who have them. The scale on the new ship was small so they probably opted not to put the detail on. But as a modeller I feel compelled to make the ships as accurate as I can. I've already painted the thrusters red and redid the firing points below the cockpit. If you look at the image below you can see they painted the firing points they painted on the ship are incorrect. The lights are the less pronounced part beside the cannons. The gun tips themselves aren't glowy.

Well, the one on the TIE/FOs is a comm relay. And it looks different from whatever is on the Special Forces TIE.
as someone who has both models in hand I can tell you that they are both very different.
also, for anyone complaining that playing with ships 30 years past* the OT is silly id like to point out that the yt-1300 (falcon), y-wing, hounds tooth, firespray (slave 1) and z-95 are over 20 years old at the time of the original trilogy, if not older. I'm talking in canon, not just EU. so I don't really see the problem of t-70s flying around with A wings or what-have-you.
If you go by legends (the old EU), the melinium falcon is 60 (60!!!) years old in a new hope (90 by the time of TFA). In legends the z95 was in production before the blockade of naboo which would make it a 30+ year old ship (oh hey....).
*when I say past here I mean 30 years past the point of the OT not in the past.

Haha didn't realize they painted it wrong on the models but you're right; attached to each cannon barrel is some kind of laser target designator which emits a red glow. By comparison the classic Tie only has the cannon barrel which is painted on.
As a purists, it's preferable for X-Wing to be set during the Galactic Civil War.
Screw purists. Bring on the PT ships.

As a purist you probably play with likeminded people. You won't be affected. Even better, you can, if you like the new movies, get some new ships, play them as a seperate(ish, you still can use the Falcon and maybe some more things) game and have some new upgrades for your OT battles!
Tournaments aren't a place for purists anyways, so nobody is going to force out of era stuff on to you.
I mean, the K-Wing was first deployed about fourteen years after the Battle of Endor, so it doesn't seem a massive stretch to keep going and include the T-70 and TIE/fo. I haven't read Aftermath yet, so I'm not sure if they address it, but something tells me they've been using the T-65 for a few years after Endor and the T-70 has been in service for a few years before the events of Force Awakens. Until they come out with a new canon timeline it doesn't seem something worth stressing over!
Aftermath, for what it's worth, starts minutes after the close of RotJ. The bulk of the story takes place a few months after.
From a sales point of view, a separate game would be massively stupid. Those of us heavily invested in the current game would of skipped it, then any new people would effectively locked out of the existing stuff. Unless they were going to buy another core and start a second collection.
Which would of made the new stuff less appealing, since there will be a total of 2 ships in that game between now and sometime in 2016.
That said if you don't want the new ships in your game it's fairly easy to keep them out, just don't play with those factions and only play with people who will do the same.
Aside what some peeps have said about what ships are from what periods in the Star Wars universe, one thing to remember is it's a 'used' universe. Most ships (aside from the Imp ships which are maintained to military standards) are used and abused. The ships are often battered and worn. And in some cases are more than a few decades old. Possibly even over a hundred years old. And these things are not cheap! You are going to keep these thing flying, as they're too expensive jut to leave to rot. Especially if you're a smuggler with a huge debt over your head. And looking to the Rebellion, I think they probably considered themselves lucky to have fighters at all. What they did/do have, they're going to keep them flying. They were focusing on keeping them operational/functional, and not worried about keeping them shiny and clean. Hence the missing armour plating on the Y-Wings as an example.
The up shot of my rambling? Yes, blend the ships from the different eras. At the very least, the varied looks of the fleets of ships crossing the table tops is more interesting than just the ships from one era. Variety is the spice of life. And the spice is melange. Sorry, wrong universe. I mean, glitterstim.

That ship already sailed.

About 300 metres through u-boat infested waters.
As has been previously mentioned. E-wings and K-wings are set way after endor. If you are doing narrative campaigns just make it era appropriate. I did a "birth of the rebellion era" routine and it was more or less Z's Y's and X's vs T/F and T/B at first.
Edited by DariusAPBYes. Not that much time has passed and they are official star wars. Not to mention the factions are so similar to the old ones that there's really no conflict like there would be if we talked about adding in prequel ships.
