Should the episode 7 ships be in X-Wing?
I think it's fine
I was bothered by it too, but then I'm not sure how 'new' some of this EU stuff is either and that's thrown in.
It's probably going to depend a lot on how good the movie is ![]()
Normally when a topic title is a question, the answer is no. You've made an exception. Congratulations ![]()
I think they should be in the game, but that the gameplay should be separated by eras. So either you play Empire vs Rebels or FO vs Resistance...no mixing and matching.
Disagree . More ships equal more choices and variety. The swordfish was an English biplane and it crippled the German Battleship Bismarck!
A bit late for this, no?
They're here whether they "should" or not
Personally I'll never understand certain peoples' desire for unnecessary complication
Edited by ficklegreendicePsst...they already are.
And yes. Now it's going to be very easy for Dismey to make more money by requiring the prequel stuff too once Sequel stuff dies down. Hold on to your hats folks. New might see 70 YEARS worth of ships in the same game...
Edited by Rakky WistolI think it will be fine. I like the variety and new ships, plus on the side of they are different eras, in terms of a galaxy wide war it would take decades to conclude, simply because space is soooo vast that pockets of resistance/First order/Empire remanent would take possibly even centuries to get to all of them especially if the rebel planets captured were not large mining or industrial worlds. Just my opinion but I look forward to more ships from the new movies.
I understand your point of view.
FFG refuses to create prequel ships because the focus is ORIGINAL TRILOGY only to create sequel ships.
But from a personal perspective I like this. I just got the X-Wing Starter and a few ships, only to find a new Starter Set being released. But at least my current collection won't be obsolete when my new Starter arrives.
In fact, being a narrative nut, I see the "old Ties" as cheap planetary defence and patrol fleets for New Order. When they encounter enemies, it leads into the "present Ties" and other ships launching into action. Similar with my starter X-Wing, which I'll be gaming with until the Force Awakens starter arrives.
Others might disagree.
Others might play "old X-Wing" with Original Trilogy and EU ships. Keeping Force Awakens separate.
All that matters is that, whatever your point of view, you enjoy gaming.

A NEW Feature from Vorps.
We have Z-95's zooming around with T-65's so yes we may as well have T-70's too.
Plus it's STAR WARS... all great, all the time. Even the Prequel ships are cool... and may be in the game in a few more years... Chris just stated that they are working to figure that out with The Mouse!

Chris is the CEO of FFG. He talked about it in his GEN CON Report... check it out.

(this may be the only place where I unconditionally agree with the OP)

Do you know about where in the video he mentions it? It's a long video...
For me, gameplay options are more important than the timeline. I'd happily mix N-1s and T-70s if there was some interesting synergy.
It seems to me that X-Wing's standard dogfight is a "what if" scenario. What if Biggs hadn't died in the Battle of Yavin and had a chance to fight alongside Lando in the Falcon against a squad of B-Wings? So I don't have any problem seeing Poe Dameron in a hypothetical dogfight against Darth Vader.
We've known for a while that X-Wing would cover the Rebellion period and going forward. I hope FFG dips into the Clone Wars and prequel eras as well because there are some neat designs and potential for fun abilities.
Folks who want to play using only period-appropriate ships are always free to create their own restrictions and scenarios.
Keep in mind star wars universe dictates that 30 years is NOT a long time when it comes to technological advancement. Their is a term for it that I'm sure someone smarter then myself knows.
But basically there is a cap on technological progress where as once you pass a certain threshold advancement no longer is exponential. It becomes more of a slow burn
Compare the prequel technology to the OP technology and it is roughly similar. Small increase yes, but not as much as you would think.
A reference can also be compared to and from the Old Republic time line which was thousands of years prior to the OT yet how much did technology really advance? Not that much. Certainly not 1000 years worth of advancement.
TLDR. It's not a problem. Nothing to see here. And it moat certainly is NOT comparable to WW1 and WW2.
More interesting question: should New Republic ships (when those get introduced) be able to be flown alongside Resistance ships?
Or, really, should the First Order be able to fly with other Imperial Remnant forces (whoever they end up being)?
I think it would offer some interesting depth if the answer to these questions was "no".

While I am fairly new to the game, i have a crazy Idea about this. What if, You could choose ships from only two closest Eras inside a faction while making a list?
So Prequel ships would go with Rebel,
Rebel with Resistance,
Resistance with New Republic?
Personally i think it would add to the depth of the game a little more as one would be forced to choose what combos to fly.
Cheers Varred

The answer is no to the idea that they should be separate
Additional unnecessary complications are unnecessary
And wasn't the kwing new rebulic?
Short answer, yes. You can't expect the rebellion to scrap all their equipment and replace it with new while continuing to fight against the rabid imperial moffs.
As long as FFG doesn't put JarJar in a cockpit I don't see much of a problem going forward.
You can have it one way, or you can have the other.
If you want it restricted, you then should go and delete (and never use) any Pilot that was ever Killed in the Fiction, outside of any specific scenario.
If you're fine with playing the "What If" game by using those pilots outside of their specific assigned scenarios - then suck it up and play with Ep7, and the Prequels, if they ever release them.
In short, y'don't get to Pick and Choose... You have it one way or the other.
Frankly, I'd rather have the choice to limit myself, rather than putting enforcable limits on someone else..
If anything, the inclusion of ships from Ep. 7 and beyond almost guarantees that this game will be well-supported for years to come.
what about if we have a character restriction, your only allowed characters from the one era but can use basic pilots from either.
