Pretty sure the mod linked is wings off a defender, not interceptors. Defenders have the wings curved out, interceptors are curving in.

Sounds like it's very specialized for taking on large ships with boarding actions. Ion barrage it to weaken defenses or keep it from getting away and then launch the boarding torpedoes. I imagine a swarm of these things is more of a threat to large ships than bombers. I'd love to see them in X-wing, but that probably depends a lot on the popularity of epic play where they'd shine the best.

Very true, but I imagine a boarding torpedo that can bore into a capital ship would bore through the millennium falcon. 
What the force is a "boarding torpedo"?
Because it sounds like it's a WH40K space marine drop pod that punches through capital ship armor ("why do we bother with all these turbolasers, exactly?") without juicing the dudes inside ("uh, antigrav?") and instead of being filled with something sensible like thermal detonators has like ten storm troopers ("look, sir, droids... would have been a much better idea."), which is totally enough to take over a capital ship ("Now, Lancelot, Galahad and I wait until nightfall, leap out of the torpedo, taking the Rebels by surprise!"), instead of just blowing the ship up ("The Empire respects the sanctity of life, yo."), all of which gets launched from something 1.5x the size of a TIE bomber.
I... just, but... Argh!
The ship mod looks pretty sweet though. 
The article linked above mentions it carrying troops or droids, but I do agree that troops would be just silly. You'd get what, maybe two in there? Some small droids however, could really wreak havoc if you released them into the right area.
I don't think it's so much about preserving life as it is about preserving the ship. Sometimes you want a ship taken intact. I'm sure there's also times when a specific person on the ship is wanted alive.
