Nina WIlliams - Trying to make her work.

By Lunatiq, in UFS Deck Building

So I've taken it upon myself to try and get the most out of Nina's huge potential. So far in play testing I've seen that she has the ability to put your oponent through a living hell. She can screw with your oponents deck so well that they will be uncontrolably screaming profanities. The wall I've found myself hitting is dealing enough damage when I have the chance, and hence winning. I've played a game where I've lost two times in a row, yet when I asked for a rematch my oponent said he never wanted to play this deck again, seeing as how it ****** with him so bad he was having anger issues. It just comes down to I can get a string of 3 or 4 attacks out, but I don't have any plus damage bumps to do enough damage for the kill, and I think that's what I need to work on the most.

Deck - Void/Death

1 x Nina Williams

Attacks

4 x Ice Pick

4 x Shockwave Palm

4 x Wipe the Floor

4 x Lao Xie's Grinning Death

4 x Head Ringer

Assets

2 x Lethal Fighting Style

2 x Purple Army Suit

Actions

4 x Proficient Sniper

4 x Cold and Indifferent

3 x Invoking the Ancients

Foundations

4 x The man behind the mask

4 x Unknown Son

4 x Mishima Zaibatsu Leader

4 x War Between Sisters

3 x King of the Ring

4 x Stoic Assasin

3 x Sworn to Protect

1 x Killer Android

So I find that the only thing so far that really gives me trouble is actually doing enough damage to win. I of course have great hand control, other than the first hand I know pretty much everything from then on my opponent has, and I am able to control blocks well enough and the like.

Using the attacks I have now, I feel that I could put in more foundations that allow me to get cards into momentum faster, in order to build up for shockwave palm as it's a powerful 2.

Also though I've considered throwing in some multiple attacks instead of some other attacks.

Some of the cards I've been contemplating the use of / whether they should stay in or go are

The Twilight Witch

Invoking the Ancients

Sadistic Cupid

Keep them Down

Midnight Launcher

Dark Geo Da Ray

King of the Ring

Maniacal Laughter (stuns are good and also get more momentum for powerful)

Merciless Fighter ( +2 damage enhance)

Spinning Demon

I really just need some constructive criticism. Feel free to call out a card as being stupid or tell me I'm an idiot for not having this one card or so in the deck. I need to hear those idea's expecially the one's I haven't thought about already. Though you can always be polite and not call me names :P

<edit> I also plan to put in 4 x Cursed Blood when I finally get my hands on them

I've looked into a few bits of Nina Tech. Here were a couple of my ideas:

War Between Sisters and Ancient Fighting Style. AFS lets you draw back after you your hand to discard theirs, on their turn. This can slow down their turn, as well as allow you to draw for some better blocks.

Researching the Past: Nina can use this to stack her deck for checks. Play an attack, E with a War between Sisters or 2 to discard some 5 checks, then F with Researching to make sure your next check is a 5.

Evil Sparrow: I would swap this attack out for the Grinning Death if anything. It makes for a nice set-up for an Ice Pick, as well as just being a nice attack that clears progressive.

The main issue that Void and Death has currently is draw power. It lacks it, and suffers because of it. They only amount that I could see work in any deck would be Achernar, Algol's 5 Difficulty Combo. It lets you draw, effectively, 3 cards, allowing for some better chaining of attacks. The only problem with it is the lack of solid Low attacks. Void is limited to Razor's Bite, and Wipe the Floor, with Maliki open for those who like 2 checks.

Personal suggestions:

-2 of each action, -1 of the Invoking

-2 Unknown Son

+3 Alchemists

+4 Fighting Styles

-4 Grinning Death

+4 Evil Sparrow

-Tinman

I'll give you some insights in my (admittedly short) time running Nina Williams* off of Death .

1. Kazuya Mishima* 's character-centric support is your friend: My Nina deck runs 4 character blocks and playsets of the following cards: Merci less Fighter , The Hunt is On , and Spinning Demon . Believe me when I say she can kill when given the opportunity.

2. Not a huge fan of Ice Pick : I know it's unblockable and all, but having to resort to gimmicks like Unknown Son and the like (and gods help you if you come upon the misfortune of having to mulligan), and it's only 7 damage with no self-pumping ability for at least 7 diff with its Combo E (which costs you 6+, btw). Lame.

I'm also not a huge fan of symbol splashing, but it works for some people (not for me, though).

I've made some major changes to the deck. Going with some more kazuya character pump stuff, as well as blow this up get more instant momentum stuff. I'll put up the updated decklist when I can. Also I havn't taken out ice pick yet, but I think I will soon, as I always keep finding myself playing something else instead so that I don't have to check a 6.

As for the actions, I got rid of the invoking but I'm keeping four of each either ones simply because I really just like what they can do and have done in games I've played.
