Anyone read star wars aftermath?...

And if so what didt you think and can you give a summery?..

Great book loved it. A lot of people went in to it with the wrong frame of mind I think and thought it was gonna be all about Luke, Leia etc. And it is not and that is great. It gives us interludes throughout the book that shows events all over the galaxy. The war is far from over. The main storyline has some great characters who are a lot of fun and I look forward to seeing more of in books 2 and 3.

The main story is kinda meh, kind of a low stakes narrative. That said the interlude chapters are a) amazing and b) actually more important to the overall Star Wars story than the actual main story of the book is.

I think the main story was fine and did a good job of establishing the new characters back stories. Plus the meeting of the Imperials was very interesting. And that ending omg I wanna know if my theory is right.

as much as I want that character to be who everyone seems to think he is, I imagine it's probboly going to be a new character that they are building up to.

Was going to say the same thing.

If your theory is the same as mine I hope it is right to. But he was a Fleet Admiral not a Grand Admiral.

Part of me thinks it could possibly be snoke 40 years before he becomes supreme leader of the first order. Then again snoke is supposed to be a devotee of the dark side so I dunno if that's the kind of man palpatine would employ to be an admiral

Some changes from Legends to canon are inevitable.

Snoke is also some kind of a lizard species. Unlikely he is an admiral.

He's a lizard? Interesting

I'm in the process of reading it now (about 20 pages left), and I have to say it's not looking good. While the story has gotten better, and I've gotten used to the writing style, neither are particularly good. As others have said, many of the interludes would have been far better stories than the one we're given. I had hopes for the Imperial Summit in the book, but sadly, that's been the most disappointing part. None of the characters feel, well, Imperial, and none of them would be all that important in the grand scheme of the Empire. A female Admiral (who acts more like a captain than an admiral), a self-proclaimed Grand Moff, and a few flunkies. Nothing to compare to the old EU's Isard, Thrawn, or even the various Warlords (An unfair comparison to make, but a natural one). The plot in general, especially the first 100-150 pages didn't make sense. How were a few ImpStars able to shoot down two A-Wings on a reconnaissance mission into the system, when the A-Wings were aware that this system was potentially dangerous? What'd they do, drop out of hyperspace right on top of the planet? Silly. A lot of stuff like that almost makes me think the book was originally supposed to be a young-adult novel, as many of those had a tendency to skip a lot of established SW lore and logic for the sake of their simplistic plot. We'll see how these last few chapters go, but if this is how the new EU is going to go, I'll stick to the Legends universe, thank you very much.

Your loss I guess. I enjoyed it. The female Admiral is Sloane, she was in the Rebels prequel book too.

Lost Stars is really good too. I enjoy the Romeo/Juliet relationship of the main characters.

Finished it but wasnt impressed. The side story where left unfinished and so so. Gave it 3 out of 5

Book one of three. They have to leave somethings hanging for future books in the trilogy.

Lost Stars was very good. I almost didn't get it because of the "Young Adult" label but I am glad I did. This was one of the best written and most engaging books of the new Canon.

I saw it, but the Young Adult thing did turn me off. I guess I'll have to give it a try when I'm done with my old EU reread.

It has easily some of the worst prose I have ever encountered, and I read pulp sci-fi on a regular basis.

Like... seriously, I have NO IDEA how the author convinced someone to pay him for such an atrocious waste of paper.

The "Shattered Empire" comic series is off to a solid start two issues in. I would recommend.

This is a runner up to The Crystal Star for worst SW book I've read. Granted, I haven't read them all.

Ha. For me, it was the worst since The Dark Nest trilogy, but since The Crystal Star had Waru, you make a valid point.

Aftermath was #2 for me behind Crystal Star. I made it to chapter 3 of Crystal Star, closed it up and never finished. That was around 17 years ago, still have the bookmark stuck in it. I suddenly feel old now lol. Aftermath came off like bad fan fiction, I think the writing style just doesn't work for Star Wars. Too many times it pulled me out the story and just felt like a punishment to continue to read it. The story itself seemed solid, but the writing style all but ruined it. How Disney allowed that I'll never understand. Aftermath had the full "hype" train treatment building in it up and it fell so short. Lost Stars on the other hand has gotten almost no build up and hardly any mention. It just quietly came out in the wake of Aftermath. It is hands down one of my all time favorite star wars novels. It is right up there with Heir to the Empire and any of Stackpole and Allston's X-Wing novels. Tarkin was my favorite new EU book but Lost Stars knocked it down one. It was just that good of a story I think. I can't say enough good about it, if you have the money and the time to read it then order Lost Stars, you won't be disappointed.

Trying to read Aftermath atm, on chapter 12 but im not liking the writing style and finding it very meh so far
