How good will the Hounds Tooth be in the new meta?

By The_Brown_Bomber, in X-Wing

I am not seeing much talk about the Hounds Tooth.

Its a beast but has its deficiencies in movement being vulnerable to rear attacks much like the much loved and often maligned Lambda Shuttle (one agility for defense and no K-Turn... these ships have their similarities for sure but I suspect the Hounds Tooth will crack into the mainstream meta much faster than the Space Cow did in its hayday (see what I did there?) :)

I have been impressed with Bossk with a Mangler Canon onboard... +2 damage anyone?

The jury is still out on how well it will do vs the field, obviously this will depend on what you pair your Hounds Tooth with.

Any thoughts on what will make a solid list using the Hounds Tooth?

Scum has always had the problem of finding a good list that the other two factions could not do. Right now it has the Brobots which takes the buzzsaw shuttle out of the picture.

As for the YV-666 what list could it be put in that makes any good. Biggest problem is arc dodgers can still get behind it also it cost quite a bit of points you will be spending 30+ points. Sure the auxilary firing arc may be in a better position than the firespray but it can still be out maneuvered.

It is certainly a decent Tactician platform, and the PS 2 with Gunner/Bossk can do the gunship thing fairly inexpensively. Haven't played many games with it yet though, so we'll just have to see what happens.

Every time i think of a plan for it, it ends up getting subbed out for the firespray, i cant find a job that it would do better in. I think it would have been cool if the hounds tooth title allowed it to release the pup at will, make it a carrier, which would make it a unique ship in xwing.

I also find myself thinking why dont scum have access to the iconic smuggler ships like the YT series :)

Feedback array is very solid for any build. It keeps the Fel away.

The title is awful, but otherwise there are lots of builds that can pull their weight in points.

Feedback array is amazing, agreed. If you want to fly scum, you can't be worried about chipping the paintwork. (Or electrocuting the pilot!)

I've been having fun with ig/yv666. Latts, k4, Bossk, weapons engineer, engine. IGB, hlc, predator, advanced sendors, auto thrusters, glitterstim.

I've only played a few games with it but dropping agility with Latts then hitting with the hlc is a very good time.

I keep wondering that too...

Because we don't need PWT city, and it'd allow Boba-Han tag teams and Dash-Xizor tag teams.

This is only assuming they copied and pasted the pilots and ships across, give the YTs scum style pilots and you don't have the same problems, you already lose all the rebel defensive builds because of Chewie, R2 and C3-PO.

Your YV-666 build is very similar to one I've flown a couple of times, but I took Gunner rather than K4. A couple more points but Gunner with added Focus and TL on the second shot is fantastic, keeps your action free for Boost and if you're feeling lucky you can spend the TL beforehand to drop their agility. Nasty, nasty! Still haven't figured out what it pairs best with though... Maybe HWK/Y to keep an eye on your rear?

While it's only 1 agility, it can be loaded out to easily do a ton of damage. It also takes 2-3 TLT turns to kill in, during which you can pound out damage with it with K4 and Outlaw tech.

My current favorite 666 list:

Bossk

Feedback

Gunner

Tactician

K4 or an ept like predator

2 X TLT thugs

The tooth is powerful, but quite simply, the Scum large bases, other than IGs, will never be widely competitive until Scum receives upgrades that can reliably mitigate damage.

As the meta slowly diversifies, I'm guessing the generic will be the yv to stand the test of time

The bossk + gunner combo is quite something, especially with the 180 coverage :)

Plus, it's the only ship in scum (apart from maybe the pogostick, Depending on the new salvaged mechs) that can take IA without shooting itself in the foot

I've often said that xizor is the most criminally (Heh) underrated pilot in sc, but ia in the right build is perhaps the most underrated card in the entire game

It's also the only reason to ever use fins :P

I am considering using the tooth in a campaign, but purely because the pilot of the ship can be killed permanently or captured if the ship is destroyed. The pup may say my commander by launching and then leaving combat airspace.

Which ship is the pogostick by the way? And are we getting some new salvaged astros that i missed?

Pogo stick = Jumpmaster 5000.

Pogo stick = Jumpmaster 5000.

:P

For the record, the yv666 is either the flying sandcrawler or the cereal box

The cereal is wookie skin flakes

Brown whale ! statement from a opponent after he was beaten by it, he he he.

I'm a big fan of the ship, but I haven't yet taken the time to find a list for it. The 180 arc is actually a lot harder to avoid than I expected, making it feel like a low cost PWT. The ship is also FAST. 4 Fwd and White 3 Bank makes the ship feel quite different from a Shuttle. It isn't too difficult to run away and re-engage with the ship.

I'd say, it isn't seeing much play yet due to players not being willing to experiment yet, especially in a tourney setting. Will it be a meta changer? I'm not sure, but it WILL win some tournaments.

I think one of the biggest issues it faces is competition from the IG and the firespray, the lack of K-turn or S-loop means it might struggle to keep enemies in arc. I think i need to try it to see how it flies.

IG and spray basically crush the yv's dream of ever being a fat ship (unless one of at least 4 of the wave 8 scum crew are defensive in nature)

Make it cheapish and abuse the hell out of its crew slots (which the other large ships have 0-1 of)

Hard 3 + engine at ps7 keeps IG's in arc fairly well.
