TIE Phantom generics. Useless??

By Rookie Pilot, in X-Wing

I hear stuff about them being powerful. But most of these are in the context of casual games.

How have you seen them fare in tournaments or against competitive lists?

Say Kenkirk Soontir?

The problem i have with 4 sigmas is that its a very blunt instrument. if you ahve 2 sigmas vs soontir in the endgame, you still lose. Esp since if 4 sigmas, you dont have intel agent. You'd ahve to actually plan the whole game as a blocking fest to try and hit soontir. otherwise, arc dodge all day.

Hi fellow Imperials. I love TIE Phantom. Whisper is one of my favourite pilots, he is awesome. Today I filled a list with a Sigma Phantom (1st time I play a generic Phantom) and I have to say... worst game in months. period.

That ship is useless, without adv. cloaking device half of the rounds he cannot shoot, he is expensive, fragile, he is sh*tty! >_<

2 TIE fighters are much MUCH better than a Sigma, always.

So... any advice to play them properly, or build them correctly? Any of you is having success playing them? May I burn the Sigma and Shadow Pilot cards?

Read this thread, then come back and apologize.

One of the things on my "to try" list is a pair of Sigmas with FCS, Gunner, and Stygium for the dual Buzzsaw goodness.

Of course, with all the TLT spam about, the Gunners may not get much usage. Still, it's a lot of damned dice.

I would look in the mirror before declaring an attack FOUR ship worthless.

Try four sigmas. Very decent.

That's true. They have an amazing statline for 25 points. And don't forget that with 4 attacks they don't have to artack every turn to make an inpression.

sensor jammer and Stygian are your only form of defense against the idiocy of pwts

int agent helps too, if you don't mind not shooting.

imo, int agent of sigmas is auto-include. It tells you when its safe to cloak/roll/focus and it tells you how to optimally decloak to dodge/block the hell out of fools

I've been flying Phantoms for a while now and I somehow completely missed out that IA triggers before decloak. Pretty darn spectacular, Echo with IA? Oh the possibilities.
