When anyone complains about how bad the prequels are, all I can do is think of the Star Wars Christmas Special.
If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it so that you see how far rock bottom is, because we climbed out of it long before 1999.
Here is the Nostalgia Critics review, it is horrifyingly hilarious ->
This is why George Lucas became an intellectual property tyrant, people signing off on things that should never have existed.......
That's right, the new movies could always be WORSE!
HEL'NAHS!!!

As a 22 yr old who grew up with the prequels, I freakinnnn love them!!!
Obi-Won in his prime, guiding, or rather mis-guiding future Vader all the while fighting his personal and council battles!!
The "awesome" battle scenes with incredibly well choreographed dueling!!
The deliberate foreshadowing of the chancellors future !!
But F*** JAR JAR BRO!!!! (Is the normal response to my above comment)

Can't argue with the next-level coolness of the fight choreography in the prequels. They were clearly what lightsabre fights always should've been. When Anakin lopped off Dooku's arms I was like "****! So THAT'S how it's gonna be!"
The thing that made the original trilogy so awesome to me (once I grew up enough to appreciate this part) were the career-elevating performances of so many B-list actors. The prequels, on the other hand, took some of the best actors of the time and made them look amateurish. And yes, Jar-Jar...he took what began with the Ewoks to all new levels. Wasn't just him, either, as the scene with 3PO in the droid foundry was downright insulting.
Of course, this is just an opinion, and we all know what those are like, 'cause everyone's got 'em. You're allowed to love the prequels, but I think you have to accept that the originals were genre-defining in a way that was no longer possible by the time of the prequels.

D'harhan? It would have been fine if in the 136 minutes of running time they had swapped out the gungans for more Maul exposition. I actually would have preferred the droid army deployed against the Royal Naboo Security Forces and swap the gungan/anakin exposition time for more Sidious-Maul interaction. It didn't happen except it did in my
Head canon
Lockdown from Transformers 4. Is D'harhan canon anymore? I don't think he is which makes me sad because he was a really cool character.

100% agree with your response and know for fact that a story like the OT simply cannot be reproduced .. I was simply stating that I was never subjected to "dat hate" of the PT as I was that same wide-eyed 10yr old, watching in amazement..
Just because we will never experience the original doesn't mean that ep7 can't offer a different but still wholly engrossing experience
Or that the prequels didn't suck as a story telling experience ![]()
I hope episode 7 could be better than the OT, the PT had the potential to be better than the OT.
I actually will agree on one point. While I don't know a majority of these actors in the new trilogy, I... I really did love how Star Wars basically cast a bunch of nobodies, for the most part, not entirely.
I love when films do that. Gives a new actor a fresh role to completely immerse themselves in and become.
Sometimes however, that can be bad.
Man I can't seem to get this posting thing right, I'm more excited for this new movie and anticipating greatness !!!
However, for some reason I'm conveying an entirely different message..
I love everything Star Wars.. Go ahead try and spin that
Coming up more quality products from Hasbro

That was one thing the mouse did right by imo. Interesting idea of bioweapons and ships but terrible, terrible writing.

I think I did a better job.

nah I can do better.

or perhaps this

A thanksgiving treat. Why isn't this on every year, it's a classic! I love watching unintelligible characters with no dialogue for 30 minutes before we actually get a story. And Drunk Leia can definately sing better than sober Leia.
Still waiting for my Bea Arthur 'action' figure

Yeah watching the grandad watch holographic dirty movies is what the holidays are all about!
The Golden Age of Star Wars was between the years 1980 and ended in the May of 1999...
Seriously? You consider the 'special' editions to be part of the golden age????!!

Well compared to the Ewok movies and the Holiday Special which also came out in that period, yeah, the Special Editions were golden.

1976 (comic con hype, novelization) to 1983 was pure SW gold. It wasn't about 10 years later with the ramping up of interest due to novels and PC games do we see a slow but steady crawl out of the Dark Age. And straight into the Dork Age with SotE and the SE. I consider 1999-2005 a pretty good time for SW, relatively, since there were actual movies and stuff, and we haven't seen a real lull in interest due to CW and Rebels being around ever since. I wouldn't call any particular period a renaissance just yet, although the ST may yet become that.

Perhaps but only in comparison. How ever the ewok films were stand alone and not destroying the originals
The holiday special and Ewok movies were close to George's 'original' idea for sequels with different directors and writers taking their own versions of SW to the screen. He had envisioned something akin to nature documentaries depicting aliens speaking anything but English and other films going onto tangents from the main story. I suppose Rogue One and the Han Solo movie, as well as the ST, are delivering on that idea finally since George is out of the picture. It's hard to say of the PT was handle in that manner of it would have been better or much much worse.
