The simplest fleet

By GAThraawn, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

I'm thinking about trying this build out now that I've realized that the numbers fit. Someone tell me it's a terrible idea?

So many activations...so many dice...

It's not a bad idea... but are you sure about CR90Bs? How do you plan on making them work with your long-range fire?

I think the real value of activations is having 1 more than your opponent. Thats what lets you dictate the game. Something I often see, for an example: 2 ships are just out of long range of one another, both will definitely get hit by the other if they move first. The player with the most ships can leave that ship til last, even if they have the initiative that turn.

With this in mind, most 300 point lists have 2-4 ships. As such 4-5 ships is probably going to net you the activation advantage most often, and 6 is most definitely overkill! It may be worth dropping one to make those corvettes As, as green suggests.

That being said, this doesn't mean it is a bad list. 6 ships definitely milks the opening salvo objective!

I'm imagining the Nebulon-Bs hanging back and engaging long range, while the Corvettes zip ahead at top speed and try to flank the enemy. Mon Mothma makes them more durable, even at medium range, which is why she's on the Nebulon, hanging back out of the way.

I have no idea if this will work, or even be a good idea, but my area has been mostly 3 ship builds, so I wanted to try something different, and I own 3 Frigates and 3 Corvettes...also, the mathematical neatness appeals to me.

And while 6 might be overkill, my experience is that Corvettes die quickly, so being able to lose one and still dictate the course of battle is nice.

I've tried:

AFx2+CR90Ax2

AF+Nebx2+CR90A

and

Nebx3+CR90Ax2 (the closest to your list)

AF+CR90Ax4

But never anything like the above. 4 ships is usually enough for me.

Shoot. I need more ships. Less X-Wing stuff and more Armada. I can only field 3 rebel ships right now.

The glads with gunnery team (and without) was waiting for this ñam! ñam!

Got to play this yesterday, with surprising results. I went second with Intel Sweep, and my objective corvette nabbed 1 token before dying on turn 2 to a bomber swarm directed by his objective ship, Corrupter. My other two corvettes went too wide around him, and ended up doing basically nothing all game.

But then my 3 Nebulons took out Corrupter on turn 3, as well as his bombers, and only suffered one loss in engaging Demolisher, who turned and ran, ending the game.

I won by over 50 points. I wasn't expecting that.

I now agree with early suspicions, my own included, that the CR90 Bs aren't a good investment, and that dropping one to upgrade the other two is a good idea, but I'm excited to try and change this into a serious list and see how it does.

I ran two CR90Bs last night, one CR90A, and two Nebs (one Salvation).

Even as first player, against three enemy ships, I just can't make the CR90Bs work with their limited range.
