I think with the introduction of TLT and Integrated Astromechs, we're finally at a point where almost everyone has a niche that justifies their existence.
X-Wing: Durable, fast jouster (all the 3s are white, along with the 4-straight), with a utility knife for an upgrade slot. With an R2 Astromech, is great at shedding stress. Red Squadron can use R2D6 as an efficient EPT carrier.
Y-Wing: The Warthog. A great stress delivery/control vehicle that also excels against PWTs. Grey Squadron doesn't quite justify the investment, but the Gold is solid.
A-Wing: The prototype is one of the best blockers in the game, with solid durability backed by the best small-ship dial in the game. The Green Squadron Pilots are EPT freaks.
B-Wing: Heavy, durable tanks. More shields than anyone in their class, but slow as molasses. Great carrier for either cannons and crew members like Tacticians. The Daggs are made for walking.
HWK-290: Lighter carriers for TLTs. Thanks to their Crew slot, can use Recon Specialist for more accurate firing at the expense of durability compared to the Y-Wing.
Z-95 Headhunter: Cheap, durable filler.
E-Wing: Outlook murky, check again later.
K-Wing: SLAM ALL THE BOMBS
T-70 X-Wing: A more expensive, but more durable X-Wing. A better dial, Boost and access to Autothrusters, but actual durability when hit is slightly lower without the Integrated Astromech (a T-70 fails to evade three hits and a crit, he loses shields and takes a crit; a T-65 fails to evade the same attack, he loses shields, takes the hit, and ejects R2 into the void).
* * * * *
So basically, we're down to just the E-Wing on the list of ships that don't have a clear role.
