I guess my question is what are people doing to increase their player base in there area?
How is the game doing?
In my area, its mostly x-wing, but there's a lot of cross pollination between it and armada; so far though, only x-wing has a dedicated night lol.
I've demoed the game and got a store owner and his one employee into the game. Sounds like they want to possibly start a dedicated X Wing/Armada night in the future. Only downside to their space is the lack of tables of appropriate size. They've got 3 that should be good (or darn near) but the other three are only 2.5' deep card tables. I don't mind a smaller space sub 300points, but you learn the table is your friend occasionally.
My work schedule is too hectic right now to commit to one man grow it locally. But I'm hoping I can plant some seeds with others.
Slowwish out my way, but I shudder to think what might happen if, JJ doesn't pull a GL, and SW:FA,E07 is a hit.

Well, I do hold demo Sundays down at my KGBSMFLGS.*
Kinda grumpy, but still mostly friendly local games store.
I've been providing the models in my area. No one has jumped in yet but I think it's just a matter of time. Particularly if the group keeps growing. Someone will eventually give in to the power of the dark side. (Apple iPhone just put "side" immediately after dark, confirmation of something?)
Fort Lauderdale, Fl.
I've found one person that is willing to play a weekly game. looking for more. This is the first tabletop/war game Ive ever played so I am not too familiar with the community. Always looking for more though.
I expect after wave 2 there will be more excitement coming.
And Jed, even though we have Armada players here in Portland Armada is still just getting going. This summer took the steam out of gaming (spent time with my son myself) but with Fall coming and the release of Wave 2 things will turn around.
I certainly hope that we'll get more excitement. I think we did have a very strong start in April/May, but you're right that the summer saw play diminished. I'm also to blame for the summer slowdown, as I was abroad for a month. (I don't feel guilty, despite my culpability, however.)
AFN and ATN have secret bases somewhere in Portland. . .I'm hanging out about an hour south of Portland, OR. I play just with friends and family, but rumor has it that HNN has a big headquarters somewhere up there, and I think they get in games pretty regularly...
Being a Rebel enthusiast I have not yet revealed the location of my hidden base, but maybe soon I will try to get a game with them.
So Portland has 5 stores doing Massing at Sullust, 1 Friday, 2 Saturday, 2 Sunday. We are doing that well
Not that secret. I know where you live.
Yes, we have 5 Sullust events. Now I just hope that we can get good crowds out to all of them. I'll confess that I'm a little apprehensive about it. Our last couple of tournaments have had pretty tepid turnouts. I hope that the more advanced notice and the bait of prizes will bring people out.

I agree 5 tournaments with a likely $20 buy in is risky. . .

Indeed. By the time that Red Castle games told me that they were on board, I started to worry. Now that the Portland Game Store is also getting one, I'm nervous. Still we egged them on from the start, but I know that I let Red Castle Games know that the Big 3 were already hosting Sullust events. It was on them to throw their hat in the ring, given that information. I trust you let Portland Game Store also know about the saturation.

It is a big enough deal that my Wife, after reading the post, blinked and turned to me and said...
"So, do you want to go for a Drive?"
... and we live in Calgary.
I'd love an opportunity to enter 3 tournaments. Yeah, it's expensive, but it's possible to win with more entries. And if you want to be a gentleman, you could always turn down a winning day so someone who hasn't won that weekend gets a good job reward.
I guess my question is what are people doing to increase their player base in there area?
Playing the game in public, honestly.
Once people see a VSD on the board, if they're going to be interested, their interest is piqued.

For $300 Air Canada gets you to Portland in less than 2 hours. That beats the 13-hour drive in my book, unless you have the time.
Either way, I'm sure we can figure out a couch for you to crash on. ![]()

Well, we play rather frequently. I'm not yet sure how many converts we've picked up that way. It seems like people are learning about the games some other way.
I kinda wish I knew the vectors by which most people got into the game, and got connected to the player communities. I've done my best to reel in the fish that have already been hooked, but I'm not sure about how to best dangle the bait.
It is unfortunately, not that simple for me... Otherwise I'd be there. I am an Australian living in Canada as a Permanent Canadian Resident, and 2-3 years ago, The Visa Waiver program was changed, so there are a -Lot- of Hoops for me to jump in order to be allowed into the US... I used to just be able to go, but now, I have to register and all... Its allowed, its just difficult.
Takes a bit more than a month to sort out.
(Ex Military, Clearances, etc)...

Ugh, that sucks. I'd have figured that it'd be a lot easier for a Canadian Aussie.
Sorry man.

For most, it would be... I however, am an Exceptional Exception ![]()
We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?
Couldn't resist
I will say though that in my area, south central, PA (and I mean as far south and central you can get lol) armada hasn't really taken off yet. Don't have any tournaments or anything close, most would be at least a 2hr drive. But hoping it does soon. But even if it doesn't get that big, I am fine with it, I still enjoy the game and I have a few friends I play with.
Take a drive and play with us in Monroeville near Pittsburgh next Sunday.
I'm in the process of quitting smoking so I'm going to need to stay away from boozing for a few weekends, so I might actually be up for some games sometime this month.

That's what my plan for Sullust weekend on the east coast. I have Sat/Sun options, but if I can find a Friday too I'll be happier than a pig in sh....Um... Dirt.
And I can take the wife out for a weekend out after the games.
