Stressing for advantage

By Iylankano, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all,

I've been playing for a while but not competitively. Going to my second event next weekend & I'm thinking of taking the below. Any & all comments welcome. Thank you in advance.

Stressing for Advantage

Ten Numb (31) - PS8/10

- Veteran Instincts (1)

- Mangler Canon (4)

- Fire Control System (2)

38

Eaden Vrill (32) - PS3

- Recon Specialist (3)

35

Grey Sqn Y-Wing (20) - PS4

- Ion Cannon Turret (5)

- R3-A2 (2)

- Title (0)

27

Total - 100

I've played similar, with Vrill, StressBot Grey, and a trio of Bandits.

I'd switch Vrill's Rec Spec to Tactician. The Grey WILL get focused down first, and a lone Y isn't going to survive long under concentrated fire. With Tactician, Vrill is pumping out additional stress for the opponent to contend with, and will help you stack it fr some guaranteed stress to still be around once the Grey inevitably bites it.

That'll also free a point up, though no clue what to do with it. My gut instinct is to replace VI on Numb with something else, but nothing really stands out. Expert Handling, maybe, since the FCS will give you dice modifications and then Numb can shrug of TLs which, if nothing else, will make the enemy possibly more likely to try and chew all the way through Vrill before going for Numb. Lone Wolf, but that makes the FCS redundant on offense.

I agree with Comradebot that you need more sources of stress or a way to keep the Gray Squadron Pilot alive. Messing around with the builder to throw some ideas out there, I thought of Biggs as the best way to keep the Gray alive. I came up with this:

Biggs Darklighter (25)

Eaden Vrill (35) YT-2400 Freighter (32), Tactician (2), Tactical Jammer (1)

Gray Squadron Pilot (27) Y-Wing (20), BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0), R3-A2 (2), Ion Cannon Turret (5)

Tala Squadron Pilot (13)

Pretty standard joust crew forcing your opponent to shoot through Eaden to Biggs and at the same time keeping the Gray Squadron Pilot alive. Added an extra ship to spread out the points a little bit. Just to get the thought juices flowing a bit...

I really like Eaden Vrill, and I recently came up with this build. I want to try it out later this week:

Eaden Vrill: HLC, Gunner, Tactical Jammer - 45(He flies in front of the HWK and Y to provide cover and block the HWK's donut hole)

Roark Garnet: Moldy Crow, TLT, Tactician - 30(I think the TLT with tactician causes two stress, because tactician says 'after you perform an attack' and TLT says perform this attack twice)

Gold: R3A2, BTL, Ion Cannon Turret - 25(Stress!)

The goal with this list is to pump out as much damage as possible with the HLC, and if ships use PtL to get into the donut hole of the Y, Eaden can shoot them at PS12 with an extra die, or use his HLC if they are in arc and unstressed.Twice if the first attack misses! There is no shortage of stress to fuel Eaden, so more often than not he will be able to attack with an extra die. With all 3 ships having access to two attacks, I think even arc-dodgers will sweat. There are a lot of chances for Soontir's green dice to fail, and Roark helps me put pressure and manipulate the firing order. The only bummer is that there is no inherent dice modification. If I had the points to spend I would, but it is currently maxed out at 100.
