Your purchase plans for wave 8 now that we know more?

By Mu0n729, in X-Wing

*sigh*

There's TIEs. So I guess:

2 x Inquisitor's TIE

2 x TIE/FO

Even though I'm not really interested in either.

Mu0n's signature reads like he has a very specific form of tourettes.

That's harsh!

Quite frankly? I want to run an Attack Shuttle squadron.

1x Ghost
2x Mist Hunter

2x T-70

Those are my most likely purchases. I enjoy watching Rebels with my daughter, so Ghost is going to happen just for that. I main Scum, Mist Hunter looks fun, and turret ships are for people to lazy to actually fly, so I'm skipping Dengar's flying toilet seat.

T-70's just for pilots and cards, also Epic games since I already have 3.

1x Ghost, Punishing One, maybe TAP

2x Mist Hunter

Maybe 1x T-70, but more likely just individual upgrades.

Not quite sure, but the way things are looking, I might be buying up to 5 TAPs! I suspect we'll see a generic + title + autothruster build come in at 20pts or less, so a five-tap swarm could be a lot of fun. The ship also just begs to be teamed up with Vess...

I wil buy one of each, like I did for the last wave. And then go from there.

hmmmm, target locks *drool*

a PS 2 coming in at 17 points I suppose seems reasonable.

would be the same as a PS 4 Tie FO (w/ept) for 1 hull --> shield, boost, and an unknown dial

if we assume a linear point scale of 2 points per 2 PS (and the TAPs pilots are 2, 4, 6, 8) we'd work down from

Inquisitor (25)

Valen ??? (23)

Baron ??? (21)

Generic (19)

...uh oh

hopefully the inquisitor has a bit of a price hike due to his ability :(

it is very possible that he does. At range 2 and especially 3, his ability represents a truly monstrous increase in damage potential over a mere 2-red ship.

I already picked up a new TFA Core Set- I may get another later...

But for Wave 8 , just 1 of each... until I realize I need more of a certain upgrade card.

My Current plan is:

1X Ghost

1X Tie adv. prototype

1X Tie/FO

2X T-70 x wing

Before wave 8 hits I'm planning on 1 force awakens core set and if I can spare the cash 1 each of punisher and k wing I also need to pick up another defender at some point.

8x VCX-100

pic2664273.png

Short-range Cornelian Shuttle Swarm. FTW.

My general rule of thumb is 1x large or huge, and 2x small ships. For upcoming expansions that would look like.

1 Ghost

2 TIE Advanced Prototype

2 Mist Hunter

1 Punishing One

2 T-70

2 TIE/fo

1 Gozanti

I may want to get a second new Core set, but I am undecided. I will look at a MM preorder as the release dates draw closer.

If I was a new player I would recommend buying one of each Core rather than 2 of either. 2 core sets are still a good value and quite playable.

Ah, Jeez, you're right. I think I'll finally need to clear out the old plastic armies to make new for plastic navies...

What's worse... is the T-70 is actually a bit bigger then the T-65, it has a longer wingspan. In my plano box, I can store the T-65's the long way, but the T-70 doesn't fit that way, it has to go in sideways.

I'm already starting to cram in 2 smaller ships to a bunk since those fat K-Wings and Punishers shoved their way in. Things are going to get worse before they get better, guys...

Oh and I left out that I'm getting the Gozanti. I'm definitely getting that :D

Oooh. Harsh! You think it'll really be that bad? It only has 2 dice unless you pay a premium. And it has the crew form of Boba Fett and Dengar! Plus you get more salvaged astromechs for your Y-wings! I think it'll be a good purchase for any Scum player -- even if you don't actually fly the ship! (And you have to admit it would be cool to have all the bounty hunter ships lined up.)

Dengar's double shot is cool. Even if you don't go for the title.

as the resident PWT hater, here are some reasons why the pogostick/toilet seat is kewl:

1. Title is optional and unique; 2-dice PWTs suck

2. The pogostick/toilet seat is currently perhaps the most dangerous ordnance ship in the game (and it's not even released yet!)

I'm going to keep parroting this until it sticks

Ept (even the generic has it): deadeye

Torp 1: plasmas

torp 2: extra torps!

Crew: Recon officer

Salvaged: r4 aggro

so what do we have here?

first, no low PS target-lock problems. With deadeye, you can target anyone in your arc

second, spending a focus with deadeye triggers r4 aggromech. Because you have recon spec (2 focus), you're left with a TL + focus on a target of your choice. That's a fully modified better-than-HLC :o

3. the combined ordnance package (dead + torps + munis) is 6 points. Recon + r4 keep working even after your 2 shots are spent, and at range 1 even 2-dice primaries will hurt when they're fully modded

4. Dengar cares about his arc and, currently, does not have any defensive tech that would otherwise let him afford to not care. If he gets into a dice-off with, say, fat han, he won't win unless he can get a lot of double-taps off. The combined power of c3po and evade will overpower 9 health and 2 agility.

The (at least) 4 new scum crew might change this, though. Fingers crossed that they do not

Oh and I left out that I'm getting the Gozanti. I'm definitely getting that :D

Two.

Two Gozantis.

I don't even know what upgrades they come with yet.

As much as I want a lot of these ships (all of em' eventually!), I... I think for the most part I'm just going to wait until they go on sale. Just can't justify slamming that much cash down at once.

The exception is the Inquisitor TIE. I can not and will not pass up my chance to fly Baron Valen Rudor as soon as possible, regardless of what he does.

Cause, deep down, I still want to have Rudor, Fel, and a possibly a couple of the generic "Barons" that appear to be INQ pilots.

One of each. I am buying the models more for display than actual playing. FFG makes quality miniatures. This was evident to me when I compared them to Micro Machines miniatures and to Star Wars Battles miniatures. For more detailed explanation, see Note.

Note: I do not have friends. I bought X-Wing to play with my psychologist. I used to go to game nights, so that I could learn the game; however, these are hit-and-miss affairs. If there is not a real world event keeping the player from going to game nights, the player is at tournament or leagues. Contemplation of being at a tournament is intimidating - I have not practiced the game that much, and attempting to read about or watch tournaments is not helpful for me. There is something I recognize in what someone else said. He was speaking about the Modern Warfare series, how the first Modern Warfare series was great. The people who came after developed a bullet point list on what made the game great, and attempted to replicate it. However, as they lacked the ability of understanding how the game was great, how the pieces worked together to create that greatness, and how that greatness was represented in all aspects of the game, from visual design to game mechanics to characterization, they were unable to replicate the greatness of the first. I am like that. I can duplicate the list, I can use the list in play, yet I do not understand what makes the list great. Furthermore, I am concerned about committing a faux pas at the tournaments. I do not have much exposure to being with people. I know from experience that I can play one round. When it comes to the second round, I am contemplating conceding. I am frightened at the reception I imagine will come from the other players when I had to leave early because I was spent emotionally, mentally, and physically.

Ghost/Phantom:

Rebel flavor doesn't quite resonate with me, and I like to keep to a budget, so I decided not to play rebels. Still, I have an X-Wing (Core Set) and 2 Y-Wings (for Scum and Villainy) so I could, but any rebel ship has to be really fun to catch my eye, especially with my apathy towards the faction's flavor.

On top of that, I don't like overpowered strategies in games. Easy wins aren't fun; I'm here for the excitement and a tight, fair challenge and overpowered ships ruin that. This has "way too powerful" written all over it because matching the source material thematically would make it too strong and I'm sure even if Fantasy Flight didn't bias it towards "too strong" to appease the fans Disney would pressure them to anyway to support the Rebels brand. This situation has "extremely high risk of broken disaster" written all over it.

And then, there's the fact that it features the ships and characters from a show designed to create a strong emotional connection to the Star Wars brand and copywritten intellectual property among young males aged 6 - 12 which can be monetized with licensed merchandise and create a lifelong "fan" consumer identity tied to the brand, while also reigniting and monetizing nostalgia for the brand among men aged 30 - 50 (and their wallets) and furthermore creating brand recognition and excitement for the release of an upcoming multi-billion-dollar film franchise and array of licensed tie-in merchandise, complete with a "Force Friday" celebrating the release of branded products. The genuine creative expression and genuine quality in the show can't get me over that sickening manipulation.

And finally the price tag all puts a big fat "no" on this one.

Inquisitor's Tie:

This one doesn't give me as much unease being from the show, but the fact that it doesn't do anything my other ships (especially imperial ships) can't already do just makes it a non-starter. Even the pilot ability is dull. I already have plenty of ships with 3 attack dice. The only thing I'm interested in here is the Thread Tracers, so I'll just proxy those.

No.

Mist Hunter:

I'm intrigued, and watching carefully. It fits some empty niches in my collection, like "medium cost scum ship that isn't a Y-Wing" and "basic systems and illicit upgrade user". It's ugly, but I really like the Cloaking Device and the Tractor Beam sounds like exactly the kind of thing I love most in this game: tactical maneuvering action. If this is the kind of ship that those kinds of things work best on, I'm probably sold.

Watching carefully, but looks great so far.

Punishing One:

I hate turrets and overpowered ships (large ships have a bad history of that), but I'll make exceptions. I like Y-Wings because they're reasonably balanced. The asymmetric dial has my attention.

Watching carefully, but not very much to sell me on it so far.

Force Awakens stuff:

I'm feeling that slime of marketing manipulation again.

I really have to play with my proxies more before I know how I feel.

I can't decide right now if it's fun enough to justify the expense; I need more data.

2 FA Core Sets, to fill out my fleet of TIE/fo.

1 T-70

2 TIE/fo, because JUKE!

1 Ghost

1 Punishing One

2 TIE Adv Prototype

2-3 Mist Hunter, because they're Scum B-wings.

A second new core set. Single blisters up to 100 points.

Probably 2 Ghosts. Depends on point values.

100 points of everything else.
