Integrated Astromech: The biggest winners

By Reiver, in X-Wing

What about a Damaged Cockpit crit interacting with A-Wing Test Pilot? Do you discard the EPT then?

A-Wing Test Pilot is a title and does not care about your available upgrade slots

the wording "You cannot equip this card if your pilot skill value is "1" or lower" means that you cannot equip it to Prototype pilots when building your squadron. Once it's equipped, however, there's nothing to suggest it falls off at PS 0

Same thing with r2-d6. If you eat a damage cockpit crit, it won't suddenly shut off. Only Integrated Astro can get rid of R2-d6.

with r2-d6, the wording that suggests the r2-d6 EP falls off is in the rulebook (because the EP only exists "as long as" you have an upgrade slot, and you lose that slot when you lose r2-d6)

to recap,

"you cannot equip this card if your pilot skill value is "1" or lower" applies when building the squadron

compare: "this card cannot be equipped as long as your pilot skill value is "1" or lower"

or "this card can only be equipped as long as your pilot skill value is "2" or higher"

R2-d6's "your ugrade bar gains the EPT icon" applies as long as r2-d6 is active

IA shuts off r2-d6, and if r2-d6 is removed his benefit goes with him

the l2play rulebook suggests that, without a slot, the EPT upgrade will also die due to the wording of "as long as"

again, though, it's something that's easily faq-able or errata-able. "As long as" would be concrete wording in a game system such as warmachine, but it could easily be a minor **** up from FFG.

also, r2-d6 leaving the elite talent after it's burned wouldn't be broken (like having the tie/x1 on TAPs <_< ) so it's in the realm of possibility

gosh this is all very confusing.

gosh this is all very confusing.

Our rules debates on unreleased cards in a nutshell, isn't it?

Droid grants your upgrade bar with EPT.

You can't take droid if you already have EPT on your upgrade bar.

You can't use Upgrade Card you throwed away.

Losing droid is equal to losing EPT.

It's not unclear, it's clrear how it works.

I have no idea how it works.

I am not the X-wing games designer.

Are you?

If no; your argument is invalid. Let's wait for an official FAQ.

yes I am.

Rules reference (page 20):

When an Upgrade card is discarded, it is flipped

facedown. The card is out of play for all purposes

except when determining the total squad point

cost of the ship to which it was equipped. If an

Upgrade card is flipped faceup by a game effect,

it returns to play equipped to the same ship.

So your ship does not longer have EPT upgrade slot on your bar if you used Integrated Droid to flip down R2-D6 droid from Integrated Astromech ability --> R2-D6 card is out of play along with "Your upgrade bar gains the (EPT!) upgrade icon".

And now, from Learn to Play rules (Page 14):

Upgrade cards may be used by ships of any faction, as

long as the icon appears in the ship’s upgrade bar

EPT is an upgrade card, you can't use it as your EPT slot is lost due to flipping down R2-D6 card.

Yes I am what? X-wing game designer?

If not; interpret what you want but know not many will take you seriously.

It could very well be that you are right. But I will wait for the FAQ.

Until then; your opinion is worth as much as anyone in the whole wide universe. (eg; nothing. Unless you design the game. ;))

Just my 2 cts. Peace and fly casual.

It's not my interpretation - it's clearly described in rules.

Of course I can understand that some guys needs to get it in simple words as looking global at available rules can be confusing for them.

Peace. :) And of course I am not a game designer, it was a misclick during copy/paste. I've corrected it now.

Actually, the precident for discarding cards you no longer have icons to have equipped exists. The only problem is it is in epic. There are explicit rules for crippled epic ship sections that force you to discard cards that are no longer in your upgrade bar. From the Huge Ship Rules, page 3:

"A Ship card’s crippled side has fewer Upgrade icons than its normal side.

When a Ship card’s crippled side is revealed, the controlling player must

choose and discard any Upgrade cards in excess of the upgrade icons depicted

on that side. Similarly, he must discard any energy tokens in excess of the

energy limit on that side. Titles and modifications are not discarded."

I am reasonably convinced by this, that if you discard R2-D6, you must discard your EPT.

You may be reasonably convinced.

And it is a convincing argument.

But I cannot state I know for sure.

for that I (we) need to wait for an official FAQ.

somehow this simple fact is hard to grasp. ;)
