So what is a "Home One" anyway?

By Ophion, in Star Wars: Armada

When I first watched Return of the Jedi, I assumed "Home One" was the callsign for Admiral Ackbar himself, or at least a callsign for Alliance Command, who were actually aboard a ship, maybe Independence... I didn't think anyone would seriously call their ship itself "Home One".

Obviously since then Home One has taken hold as the name of the ship itself....

I dunno. Unless "Home One" has some deeper Mon Calamari mythology, it sounds a bit naff to me. Especially compared to Defiance, or Independence. Of course, they also had the "Kathleen" and the "Maria"....

Must be deep Mon Calamari mythology....

Well, the Rebellion is mostly Fleet based (it's their greatest asset after all), with a spread out power structure to avoid killing the Rebellion in one blow. There is the ground-base HQ (Dantooine, then Yavin, then Hoth) for ground ressources and there is the fleet-based HQ with capital ships of different importance.

Home One in the fluff became the mobile base of operations for the Rebel fleet as well as the Headquarters "Frigate". So I guess Home refers to it being the core of the fleet and One refers to its dominant position as the main mobile base.

Its no dumber than "Air Force One", "Earth Force One" from B5, or any other "XX One" used in a multitude of sources.

Pretty standard naming for a central command and/or leadership transport. Home One just happens to be both much of the time.

I'm not seeing your problem here, the rebellion being a mobile force, it makes sense to call the central point of a galaxy spanning military force a 'home' and 'one'

I always knew that Home One was the flag ship under admiral Akhbar (don't remember the spelling..)

You're asking about the meaning of a name from the guy who called his loner smuggler dude "Solo." Just...don't ask. The answer will be disappointing, if it exists at all.

Or, Luke Starkiller, the guy that would go on the kill the Death Star.......

I have no problem with Home One. It makes more sense than Headquarters Frigate.

I always thought "Homely One" would have been a better name than the original!

Many Mon Calamari ships were repurposed passenger ships. Home One could've been its name during peaceful times.

Given that it is the largest, most powerful ship in the fleet (IIRC) and that it is both the command ship, and a carrier, (almost all capitol ships carry a few fighters) and that the Mon Cal hav had their home planet roughed up a bit, and their people scattered somewhat, I find it a suitable name.

I swore is name was Skywalker... What else did I miss?

I guess it's like airforce one...

When "Home Two" just won't do.

When "Home Two" just won't do.

Maybe Home One was originally the call sign of whatever ship was serving as the fleet's command ship and when the decision to make the MC80 that became Home One the permanent command ship came down they decided to make its name and call sign identical?
