Three-way split: What's the best Rebel 24 pt Generic?

By DraconPyrothayan, in X-Wing

Rules are simple: Looking for a 24 point ship without using Unique Pilots or Unique Upgrades of the Rebellion faction.

Our contenders are:

Blue Squadron Novice (PS 2 T-70) + 0

Blue Squadron Pilot (PS 2 B) + Fire-Control System

Dagger Squadron Pilot (PS 4 B) + 0

Rookie Pilot (PS 2 T-65) + R7 Astro + Integrated Astromech + Initiative Bid

Red Squadron Pilot (PS 4 T-65) + R2 Astro + Integrated Astromech

Red Squadron Pilot (PS 4 T-65) + R5 Astro + Integrated Astromech

Gold Squadron Pilot (PS 2 Y) + Twin Laser Turret

Gold Squadron Pilot (PS 2 Y) + [[[Other]]]

Green Squadron Pilot (PS 3 A) + Autothrusters + Title + Chardaan + Push the Limit + Juke

Let the debate begin!

Yes, the 3-Way Split was initially titled before I realized that Y-Wings and A-Wings had folks in this fight.

oh ffs not you too

there's no such thing as "best" :P

context, man, we need context!

different ships excel in different situations and belong in different lists according to their strengths

B-wing is stupid accurate, dat barrel-roll

Y-wing is a turret, loves weaving through obstacles to lose swarms

Greenie is incredible fast and has higher ps

the blue novice...is overpriced ;)

Rookie has no real hat in this ring, sadly. There's no 3 point astro with an effect that synergizes with a generic enough to make it worth 24 points. Go one more point up for Tarn, though...

My pick would be a Gold with title, ion and r2. Gold with TLT might be more reliable, but a warthog is more fun. That Green Squadron A-wing build would be my second choice.

The fcs B wing is the best generic. FCS blues are not something that can be ignored or sidetracked. They do significant damage and enjoy extremely good jousting stats.

Rookiee with R5 and Plasma Torp (25 points, but who aims for 24, really?)

Blue B-wing with FCS has to be the best all-round option, but like fickle pointed out, context!

Btl a4 y wing with ion cannon turret and r2

Gold Squadron Pilot #1

Y-Wing
Twin Laser Turret
Gold Squadron Pilot #2
Y-Wing
Bomb Loadout

Blaster Turret

Seismic Charges

add title if you want (BTL-A4 Y-Wing)

Gold Squadron Pilot #3
Y-Wing
R2 AstromechIon

Cannon Turret

add title if you want (BTL-A4 Y-Wing)

GSP with Title, Refit, PTL, Expose (yes, Expose).

I'd take one of these over an under equipped Novice.

Blue with /E2, Intel Agent might be a decent 24pts. Should result in the best side to Barrel Roll to.

2 X Bandit.

is this really a question

dude

T-70.

Well any 3 point astromech can be burned to save against a damage card. It's a good excuse to tack on Flechette torpedoes for mid-game disruption and any 1 point astromech. Besides, the OP wants non-unique upgrades and those are pretty much all of the 3 point astromechs.

How about Rookie + R2 + IA + Flechette Torps for 24? You get an extra tool against Interceptors and Aggressors.

Personally I would give the contract to the y-wings. They are reliable in so many ways. Either the ion warthog on the TLT gunboat.

Naked Blue B-wings so that the rest of the squadron get more points otherwise get it.

A Rookie with R3-A2 as a cheap stress machine isn't too bad...

TLT Y-Wings are pretty crazy, but they kind of need numbers. As a one of there are better options.

That A-Wing looks like a lot of fun, but I would say it probably is the least competetive of the bunch, especially because Juke has a high chance of not triggering with its low PS.

FCS B-Wings I like as pairs, but more often than not I just add that one point to give them Tactician.

Yup. Y-Wing for me. Either version mentioned thus far should fit any squadron need you may have. The Warthog for in your face work or the TLT for sniping.

Now I just need to find someone willing to part with the Warthog card. :(

I know there's not really a "Best".

I wanted to spark a Debate, which you thoroughly stopped here :-p

If it helps, in for most of my lists in Epic for my rebels I typically use equal part Blue Fire control B-wings and TLT-Y-wings as the core of my force.

I tend to try to avoid the vette and instead bring a GR75.

Do you get to play epic often? I envy you!

TLT Y-Wings seem so disgusting versus epic ships. Have you ever thought about using Daggers and Greys for the PS advantage? I feel like it could be worth with all the points floating around.

Not as often as I like, but I try to get a game once a week.

I've considered dagger/grey but so far i'd rather the points for spare stuff.

I prefer the Dagger Squadron Pilot to be honest.

I have never been that proficient with FCS and therefore prefer the higher pilot skill.

If you have 24, it's probably the Blue+FCS or the Gold+TLT; Daggers become a worthwhile purchase when you're putting other bonuses on 'em (Adv. Sensors or HLCs stand out, here), and Rookies are left wondering what to do with that all-important point.

At 22, Rookie+1pt Droid should do well enough vs the Blue with the choice being whether that 1pt droids special is better than a barrel roll; at 23, I think my favourite is actually the non-generic Rookie+R3A2; at 25 you can get Tarn.

24? That's the tough spot. Not enough 3pt astromechs worth their salt for a rookie; not enough positional or firepower options for X-wings to exploit the PS4 anti-generics bid.

If I needed a pure jouster, I would either take a gold with ion and title for the punch or a blue + FCS if I needed a bit more maneuverability.

If I needed an arc dodger, I would take a green + at + title + chardaan + ptl + juke

If I needed a turret, I would take a gold with tlt.

Out of context, I would take a blue with FCS because I like bees.

Thus the conundrum.
