FFG Please add more Comm Relay to Tie FO Pack...

By Reklawyad, in X-Wing

After getting the preview for the new FO fighter pack, I seem to be quite underwhelmed by the fact that if I want to equip the Tie FO that I got in my Core set, I'll need to purchase at least 2 more Tie FO packs than is necessary.

While it might be to late to issue a second card in the production run, I would urge you to consider offering said cards in a Prize Kit ASAP as Alternate Art or maybe having a program where we can send away our Proof of Purchase for the Core Set or FO Fighter pack to get additional copies.

Some will say "just buy the extra packs and shut it" but I think this upgrade should have been included in the core set x 2 to begin with as the core set stands is only came with one Tech Upgrade.

Just my two cents hoping others will chime in with their thoughts.

And no if this doesn't happen I'm not going to rage quit over this, just think it would be a good idea to get some additional copies ASAP to help with the Tie FO ships.

Thank you.

Rek

Add an extra Integrated Astromech to the T-70, as well. Same thing can be applied to the T-70 from the starter. We really don't need an extra Advanced Proton Torps (though I will admit it combos well with the new Targeting Astromech, so I can see why it's there).

How do we know it combos with it well? I don't see anywhere that the new droid has been spoiled.

Because it looks like the new astromech is "something something maneuver, something something target lock". Assuming it's giving you a free target lock under conditions XYZ, it pairs well because advanced protons are a devastating weapon which no-one ever takes because they're so bloody fiddly - you need to have a target lock and a focus token and be at range 1 to get them to work.

If this is a way to get a fairly manouvrable fighter (which a T-70 is) with a cheap-ish free action without needing stress via the astromech slot, then you have a much better chance of getting that alignment of three factors, especially for elite pilots who can move, focus, target lock then push the limit and boost up close to blow some fools to dust bunnies.

I would like to see extra tech cards too, but....I doubt it. The first generation prize support was mostly movie art cards, and I'd expect to see that again - it's cool, simple and people will want them.

I would like to have enough comms relays to equip an entire squad, but at the same time, how many do we need? Theoretically you can have 5 Zeta Squadron Pilots with Comms Relays, tops, and if you really want to use them to their full potential, you want Omega Squadron Pilots (or other named guys) with Juke, who are sufficiently expensive you're only going to field 4.

Expecting someone to buy 4-5 expansions to field a 100 point squad is not unreasonable to me, especially since said squad is pretty self-contained. Yes, you have 1-2 spare TIE models, but I guess that's no different to the swathes of spare upgrade and pilot cards people always have at the moment.

The bold part is what I'm worried about the most is that I'll have those extra ships wanting to have the Comm Relay upgrade and won't "legally" be able to field them unless I buy more expansions just to get the upgrade cards. I can always borrow some from others if they aren't using theirs at the moment, or proxy them, but then in an official dog fight I'm at a loss. I think they really could have just put more upgrade cards for both the Astromech and Comm Relay so then the Core set would also get outfitted with these upgrades without having to buy more expansions just for the cards.

Now there's always the hope that we will get more in later expansions, that's always a good thing to hope for, but I doubt I'll be able to just buy the Comm Relay cards from other people.

I guarantee they'll be available as singles on eBay. Now, at what price? That's an altogether different issue. There are a number of upgrades I looked for on eBay and decided to just buy the expansion to have it for bitz or whatever 'cause it didn't end up being that much more. Need to figure out a way to turn unused ships into debris fields or something...

If they add another Comm Relay to the pack, then someone who buys two TIE expansions and a Core set will have one more Relay than they can use. Someone who buys three expansions will be swimming in them, with six relays to only four ships.

Just buy a single off eBay or through a site like Team Covenant.

I would guess we will see this card in another expansion eventually, maybe even the Gozanti! I could see see two or even four in there!

Unfortunately not likely. The precedent for blisters with 3 unique and 3 generic is 2 upgrade cards. See also: TIE Interceptor and original TIE Fighter expansions.

No way it'd show up in the Gozanti. That expansion comes with classic TIEs, and neither the Gozanti or classic TIE has a tech slot. They won't waste space in a box on upgrades that the ship cannot physically use.

Once again, patience can and will pay off. I suspect we may be seeing an X-wing Aces pack sometime after Wave 8. Comm Relay, Wired, and some of the other popular upgrades may be seen again in the next wave, much like Advanced Sensors.

:)

Id rather have a few too many cards lying around than too many shops that I can't possibly use at once. I currently have neither of those problems but the new core was pretty stingy with upgrades.

The new core was exactly as stingy with upgrades as the old core. It came with two unique droids, one set of Proton Torpedoes for the lulz, one EPT, and one new tech upgrade. The old core came with two EPTs instead of one.

They could have maybe bumped it up to 10 upgrades, but then they probably would have felt obliged to bump it to a $50 MSRP.

To be fair, I think that the design philosophy for a core set is KISS. The smattering of cards in the box is as an introduction to the concept of upgrade cards, whilst throwing as few extra "complicated decisions" at our poor, confused newbies as possible :)

I would have liked one more Tech Upgrade or EPT in the New Core, and maybe (maybe) replace the Proton Torpedo with the Plasma Torpedo.

I don't think this is a card that you'll want to spam.

Actually, I disagree. Evade is and has always been an awesome action but the problem is that you don't get the benefit of it if you don't get shot at that turn.

This now lets you 'store up' an evade token by taking an action on your first turn (or any other turn where you don't need your action) - which is on the par with a rechargeable shield upgrade - which costs a point more than this.

A Comms Relay equipped TIE/fo is essentially the same (in terms of durability and firepower) as a pre-refit TIE advanced, but costs a couple three points less (allowing you to take five of them, not four) and has a massively better dial.
