New Blinded Pilot damage card

By Herowannabe, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Opportunity is allso used in the "once per opportunity" rule. So we do have many other "opportunitys" that do not concern attacks. I'm not sure this makes any difference to any arguments here though...

It's actually not any more. The new phrasing (Card Abilities) is:

A card ability cannot be resolved more than once during the timing specified on the card. For example, a card with the timing of “when defending” cannot be resolved twice by the defender during a single attack
I don't know that I give FFG's rules authors enough credit to call that conclusive that they were trying to make "opportunity to attack" a distinct game term, but "opportunity" appears only in reference to the standard attack during the combat phase.

Would a large ship with Anti-Pursuit lasers also fall this? You roll an attack die, but your opponent has no chance to defend. Is that an attack, or is it merely a way to do damage? If it's merely a damage card, does it fall under BP?

And what about bombs? It seems that they don't fall specifically under the definition of an attack as they don't have a specific target. Could a pilot still drop a bomb and resolve BP during the upcoming attack phase?

Anti Pursuit Lasers, at least, are obvious: absolutely not. They are not an attack, they are simply an upgrade card doing its job. Therefore they do not satisfy Blinded Pilot.

With bombs, the answer is yes and no. You could drop a bomb, then trigger Blinded Pilot on your next chance to attack. But you could not use the bomb to trigger Blinded Pilot for the same reason as with APL.

I know this thread is old but it doesn't resolve the Corran Horn question. In a FAQ since this thread the answer was officially revealed to be that Corran may use his end phase attack to clear blinded pilot but that it does mean he cannot attack the following turn (as if he actually attacked during the end phase).

In the other case, where he used his ability the previous turn to attack twice, he cannot clear blinded pilot until the next turn when he is able to attack normally again (also in the FAQ).

That's correct, and the latest FAQ hasn't really changed that.

If a ship gets an opportunity to attack from a card effect (such as Dengar or Corran Horn), that ship can resolve one of those abilities and flips Blinded Pilot facedown.

Corran's ability allows an End phase attack, but it says he " cannot attack during the next round ", and because "cannot" trumps everything, that effectively removes an opportunity to attack and the ability to flip the Blinded Pilot card for that next round.

PS: you need to update your FAQ. We're up to version 4.2.3 now.

Yeah that's what I was saying. He technically wouldn't have blinded pilot the next round but he still would not be able to attack per his ability. I appreciate the faq update!
