A-Wings might actually become good?

By Duskwalker, in X-Wing

So I have been thinking about some of the new upgrades from the Force Awakens stuff. And I noticed Wired and Juke, while just okay by themselves, would be really good if you could combine them Push The Limit.

The ability to negate a defense results might even make 2 dice attack hit. And I think it might even work against evades from evade-tokens and C-3PO.

And for wired: The ability to re-roll focus-results is good for defending, specially if you have Autothrusters, since focuses are the only results you don't want.

Keep the dream alive.

Jake was doing pretty darn good at Regionals.

Pure a-wing lists can win but I don't think anyone is going to say its the easy path to tread.

A-Wings (mostly Tycho, Jake, and Prototype) are already pretty good, but Wired and Juke don't hurt.

You do not have an upgrade slot left on Tycho or Jake with common builds (and can suck up 70 points). The other two named pilots do not have a second EPT, so you have to cram them on a Green Squad. Walking into a competitive environment with 3 or 4 A-wings has never turned out well for me. Fun, but dead.

I've always found outmanouver the best 2nd talent on an awing. If you're playing them well you're nearly always out of arc when youtake your shot and stripping off that green die is almost like adding an extra red!

"become" good?

they were always good

they just needed good pilots ;)

Procket A-Wings can down a Falcon in one round of firing. They're already good.

Yes, Juke is a fantastic talent for A-wings.

I think I like juke might be better under the right circumstances. It is cheaper and if your opponent doesn't have or is not willing to spend a focus you straight up getting an extra damage.

I want to try run it on Greens, since It gets better with multiple attacks, and you don't have the win PS bid to get it of. In fact it might be preferable to not go first since your opponent might have already spend his focus on his attack or it detours him from doing so.

you want it on higher PS so you don't have to lose the evade in an attack (unless you spam em; can't shoot us all down!)

It's probably a Tycho card. Well, Wired, you had your incredibly brief moment in the spotlight :P

(unless you spam em; can't shoot us all down!)

That is exactly what I want to do.

I actually enjoy my green squadron pilots. I see Arvel being useful with TLT released. Tycho, Jake, and Proto have always been useful.

AlexW and I have been discussing As being the sleepers of this wave.

So 'juke' is cheaper and lets you discard an evade *result* yeah? which turns to a focus?

But outmanouvre removes the whole die, i still think its a better purchase. Especially flying against double action lists with PTL who often have an evade and a focus on them anyway

A-wings were already good, both some named AND Generics.

When I lose, it's because I didn't A-Wing.

When I win, it's because I A-Winged.

I don't know about using a swarm though. It takes a good player to cope with the low amount of attack dice and a fair amount of luck.

The Green Wire

3x Greens, title, Chardaan, PTL, AT, Wired

Green, title, Prockets, PTL, AT, Wired

On first approach, use the speed and boost to get out of arc. PTL for either evade or focus and self-stress to trigger Wired. Wired allows rerolls of eyeballs on both attack and defense roll, which makes the evade action much more attractive than usual. Next turn pull a k and you STILL get rerolls even without the tokens.

I can see this as surprisingly effective against Deci's with gunner as well as against TLT swarms. Two attack dice will get through the Y's green dice, and Autothrusters combined with Wired's rerolls for every attack will make those three dice attacks miss a lot. Save the evade token for that unfortunate time when the Deci or TLT rolls three hits. Oh, and when they get a shot through despite all of this, two hull and two shield isn't all that bad.

Maybe not competitive, but I just love flying A-wings.

Edit: forgot Chardaan!

Trying to get peoples attention with the thread title? They are already decent options to fly. One of the only ships where I think that every pilot or generic is a viable option.

Which is why Arvel famously won worlds last year?

The thing I have found about A Wings is you have to fly smart, and be patient, and fly for the long game. This makes them problematic in a tournament environment where things are timed. But in and of themselves, A wings have the dial to get the hell out of dodge, and turn around long ways for a better approach angle to get what they want.

Arvel is the weakest, he's the Fel's wrath of the A-wing group.

But with intimidation, maybe he's a good counter to ionoicunn. At least a speed bump.

The dice is NOT a dodge, it is 3/8 of a dodge. If your opponent has 4-5 defense dice losing one is not a big deal, but 4-5 defense dice give you an average of 1-2 defense resultants, and taking one of thous is a can make quite the difference. He can only have so many focuses.

And if you are facing lists with PTL, outmaneuvering them is rather hard because they will probably move after you.

If you are fighting high agility ships making them burn all there tokens is more or less the only way you get a hit in. multiple hits with Juke will do just that.

Arvel won the worlds in 4ABY for his team.

I've only used him once and he actually won me the game using his ability...Keep meaning to use him again.
