So... Raider Model not quite as big as I expected.

By jkokura, in X-Wing

Anyone else surprised at the scale of the Raider? I was expecting it to be a bit beefier, but it seems much more streamlined than anything. Compared to the CR-90, I find it to be in scale, but for some reason I was expecting it to be much larger than the CR-90, not just a little larger.

Also, the punisher is not as big as I expected given the pictures and forum posts. It's big for a TIE, but it's not as outrageous as I was led to believe.

In retrospect, the Decimator feels too big to me.

Im pretty happy with my raider, though I wish it was 5mm thicker in the XY plane. I think the punisher is massive, I wish it was on a medium sized base. It looks too large compared to my decimator and other TIEs.

I tought it would be bigger.

#thatswhatshesaid ;)

Actually I like the look and size of the thing, maybe it could be a bit longer compared to the blockade runner...

What puzzles me is the bridge, it just doesn't seem to scale well with the tie fighters and stuff. They must really be crammed in there. I would have at least made the bride tower taller.

The empire doesn't need to compensate.

Agreed. I was looking for it to when I first saw the model. Then again having a small bridge makes it harder for the rebels to ram an A-wing into it.

*cough* Executor *Cough*

I imagine the bridge is recessed into the hull with only the observation windows above the superstructure to protect it.

Some prototype tank designs end/post war did this with the tanks turret so the command crew had the hull in front of the lower half

I was actually surprised the raider was as big as it is. I think the trick is to stop seeing it as some sort of mini star destroyer and instead think of it as a souped up beefed up decimator.

Next to a corvette it looks small to many of us as you're used to seeing a star destroyed swallow up a covette :)

That's the hardest part. Can't unsee Star destroyer!

The real question about the epic ships is would you have paid more if they had been at the 1/270 scale? I know I would have, the base size could probably have been the same, just have the ships extending out over the fore and aft base template.

So, would you have paid more $ for it to have been in 1/270?

I may not have paid retail prices but I definitely paid enough for my Raider. No, I really am glad they do not charge any more for the CR-90 and Raider (and GR-75); I don't mind one bit that they are not 1/270 scale, they look gorgeous!

I don't think any of the Huge ships (even the GR-75) would be really usable in 1/270 scale. Sure, you could theoretiaclly take over a gymnasium or tennis court for really BIG battles, but for most tabletop games, there's no way it would work. The Raider and CR-90 are both supposed to be around 150m, right? At 1/270 scale, that would be 21.87 inches long. On a 36x36" tabletop, that's just not feasible.

If you scaled the price up accordingly, you'd be looking at $150 US or so, maybe more. And no, I wouldn't pay that much, particularly since the game utility would be so limited.

Yeah, I hope they don't make any more large ships, at least not larger than these ones. I always saw X wing as being more of a starfighter skirmish style game...and that works really well with the rules. Once you start introducing huge ships things start getting weird.

No. I think the ships are appropriately sized for both the Epic Matches and for cost, but I'm still surprised.

I think it's fine, and it's certainly very imperial looking.

I definitely would have paid more for it to be in scale with the fighters.

It actually fits inside my container. I think it is just the right size.

It's a different scale, remember
