Debating the new x-wing "fix"

By Evenflow30, in X-Wing

No offense to the people that have done the work. Surely they've but more effort into that I have but...

This is one of the reason's I feel the key to enjoying Star Wars: X-Wing is to ignore Math-Wing.

Depends on your definition of "enjoy". A lot of us find analyzing the game in that kind of depth quite enjoyable.

Besides, knowing a ship is overcosted doesn't mean you never fly it. I fly Defenders quite frequently in casual games. It just means I know what I'm getting into when I do fly it.

Along with this, it helps to be familiar with the numbers behind the game when you are getting yourself into the competitive scene. I'm all for casual play, but there is nothing more un-enjoyable then walking into a tournament with your home brewed list, and paying money just to get crushed by lists that are clearly superior to your own.

No one is telling you to field 4 identical T-65s with IA.

Spam lists are a thing because of a lack of imagination! They work because it is easier to fly 4 ships that all share the same maneuver dial, and the ships that are spammable happen to be very points efficient.

Nope. But then there is no good reason why i should not be able to field 4 identical T65s either. just because you happen not to approve of the list I want to put on the table is not a good reason BTW.

Maybe i really like X Wings, maybe I learned how to fly them and think they work well with the tactics and playstyle I use. Maybe 4 X Wings flies better for me than B Wings or A Wings, or any combination of other ships. There are plenty of lists out there which field identical ships. Either there are a lot of players out there with no imagination, or maybe you need to broaden your horizons.

Either way, if I have ANY T65s then i will have to go 1:1 on T70 expansions for each T65 I want to field fixed; and why whould I not want to field them fixed, its supposed to make them better, right? There is nobody telling anyone to field 4 T65s, but FFG ARE telling people that they have to buy a T70 expansion for each copy of IA they want, tournament legally anyway.

For people who actually want to use the ships they have spent good money on, this fix does effectively force people who have more than 1 or 2 T65s into an investment. Maybe they have more T65s than you think they should have, but thankfully you dont get to decide how other people should play this game.

The Tie Adv fix would have been a much harder sell if the Raider only came with 1 or 2 copies of the fix. its pretty legit for people to want more copies of something which is going to make their ships work again, especily if FFG, by way of bad design in the first place, made a ship that was just crap from the start. From that point of view theres a good argument for any fix to be provided to players on a free basis, maybe on proof of purchase of the ship the card is designed for, instead of forcing or expecting players to shell out more dough for something that should have been there in the first place.

While they might be saying that out loud - they're also secretly implying that if you're patient, they'll give us access to IA in another pack at some point, probably, but you might have to wait awhile.

Tell 'em to punch their stupid tournament rules up their backside, and play 'friendly' matches instead. I have no intention of ever attending an official FFG event, and one Integrated Astromech card is all I will ever need, no matter how many X Wings I intend to run it on.

To be honest, yes i think the Defender is stillworse off than the T-65 after both their fixes hit. But that doesn't excuse this half hearted attempts to bring them up to par with other ships. They BOTH deserve better

Y'know I'd actually forgotten that the Defender even received its 'fix' - that's how meh it was! :D

I've tried rex ptl 'fixed' a few times, and it was in no way close to competing with Whisper for that 40-42pt slot. Still a strictly epic-only ship for me - I appreciate those few brave souls who are skilled enough to have turned their dual defender lists into viable options, but that doesn't translate into the ship being viable per se. I'd be very interested to hear Biophysical's take on the ship in the new tlt meta...

I am still unsure why ptl would be good on defender. Are the kturns now green?

Rexlar really wants some way to modify dice and still have a focus to activate his skill. Not too many ways for synergy challenged imps to make that happen.

Yeah Rex is kinda still hosed. But PTL is at least somewhat playable with TIE MkII. He could be good, just that i find with the Advanced Fix Maarek does similar things (well kinda) just for a lot less points.

When it comes to Defenders i think Vessery is still the better choice, even more with the new Advanced, Foo fighter and the coming Prototype. They all have decent PS8+ pilots that can TL. So Vessery might be worth most of hus points now... Might...
