T-70, TIE/FO expansion packs announced

By Danthrax, in X-Wing

Yeah model-wise they can't just put a title on the current TIE for the special forces. It's different enough to need a new model.

I don't agree. The Royal Guard Interceptors are at least as different from the normal Interceptors, but all they got was a repaint.

Does that ace block you from flipping hlc crits to hit? Does it stop you from flipping hits to crits from mangler?

Did RG interceptors have a gunner seat facing backwards?

No, no they did not. Nor did they have shifted-to-the-side Ion Engines or reinforced struts, on top of a shoulder mounted MG.

The TIE/SF will get its own model.

Sorry, didn´t read all the posts, but...:

So to get the fix for my two T-65´s, I have to buy two T-70´s.

But then..., if I want to get an integrated astromech on my two T-70´s I need to buy two more.

This is not meant as whining, mind you, but, it does invite proxying a bit, doesn´t it?

Really? Royal Guard Interseptors have second crew and rear cannon?

... Ace ... Leader ...

So ... no names or real call signs any more?

Seems like Disney isn't in the fluff of no-name characters... I am a bit disappointed about this.

Did RG interceptors have a gunner seat facing backwards?

No, they have four extra wing fins, which is actually a more significant change to the look of the model. Or would be, if they'd bothered to model it. But they didn't, because the Royal Guard TIE was just an upgraded TIE for a specific elite unit.

You know, just like the Special Forces TIE.

The TIE/SF will get its own model.

Well that's obvious at this point. Because if it was just going to be a Title, it would have been in the TIE/FO expansion pack.

Disney's worried about people finding anything out before they can shake the tills.

They don't want a situation where people involved talk about a movie and it causes people not to go see it in theatres. Sush as with Josh Tank twittering like an idiot before Fantastic 4 premiered, or with his friend calling everyone an idiot for not liking the mess of a movie American Ultra.

It could be worse. Star Trek Attack Wing has unique captain cards with names like "Romulan Commander" or "Gorn Captain".

Exactly. No-one is going to get pilot cards with named pilots without LFL's approval, and - at least at the moment, We may see another named pilot - instead of "Blue Leader", it might be someone specific - can't see the card - but they're not going to let FFG make up names as they did with "Whisper"

The special forces TIE - we'll see. One thing that springs to mind is that the major difference - the chin turret - is virtually irrelevant as modelling that on without moving the stand fitment is going to be awkward. I'd love to see a TIE with a turret slot, though!

Also - Red Ace is going to be a bugger to kill. I can't help imagining him with R2-D2 as suggested, but also Comms Relay from the TIE/fo pack - because that card essentially turns an evade token into a shield, as it'll stick around until it's needed.....

Though, garden was just red leader, and Dutch gold leader, with Luke being an ace and Horton an ace... In reality, this is just the same pattern!

Yeah. Its the same pattern. But I want to have uniques with names.

Imagine Howlrunner, Backstabber and Dark Curse had been named like

'Obsidian Leader' 'Black Sq Ace 1' 'Black Sq Ace 2'

I think we wouldn't have the flair we have now, would we?

Bruce, Reginald and Sheryl all have a certain charm?

There ya go, done!

See I am of the mind that when the Expansion packs ship we will know the names of the X-wing pilots from the movie. Hence "Red Ace" will change to be the other named pilot. (Besides Poe and Atsy) because Greg Gruneburg has already stated he is an X-Wing pilot in the next three movies. Either that or he will be in the next Ace's pack. Disney is keeping a tight lid on what is released when so in order for FFG to make the announcement to get people excited they were allowed to release it with a False name on the Card.

Just my 2 cents

That X-Wing fix is neat! Nice and thematic. I suppose negating 1 damage is worth a hull upgrade, but you do have to lose the mech. Still, I'm excited to see if it makes a difference.

Does anyone else think the wording is slightly open to interpretation? Does "you" and "your" mean the player or the pilot/X-Wing ship. Is there any precedent (or previous card) that uses "you"/"your" to mean player or individual ship? Could someone try to Lawyer-Up and say that this card allows "you", the player, to stop any one damage card dealt (on any ship) to them by ejecting (discarding) any astromech (on any ship) they have on the table?

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction to stop this use of suicidal astromechs from saving any ship on the board from damage... .

The rulebook says that the word "you" on an upgrade card always refers to the ship the upgrade card is attached to.

That explains why no one else mentioned it. Thanks, I should have known that.

Taking your thought in a different direction, I wondered if, instead of a future title allowing X-wings to equip two astromechs, there could be some future title that allowed X-wings to all share their astromechs' abilities? I don't know how the language would work or if it makes any rules sense or thematic sense, but that could conceivably explain the "1 of your" wording on this card -- e.g., when Luke+R2D2 takes a damage card, he can cause Rookie's R7 to eject to discard the card.

So far, my only issue with these expansions is the high probability I never figure out which "Ace" and which "Leader" does what, and then getting my Epsilons, Omegas, and Zetas mixed up.

"Oh, cool, you're flying Omega Leader. I'll have to make sure you don't get that nasty focus and target lock combo then! Oh, that's not how he works? OH! That's Omega ACE. Right right. And Zeta Leader too eh? Might as well call him captain barrel roll, am I right? Oh, that's not how his ability works? Hmm... Let me look at that one more time..." And then I'll proceed to get those two mixed up mid game as well. What a headache.

On a 2nd note, what hasn't been spoiled from these blisters? Just the 2 named ties and the astromech?

No, the entire back section of the SF TIE is different. And it has an antenna on one side of the cockpit, and a turret thing mounted underneath.

And the wing connection points are different (look like big, beefy cogs)

It's different enough. Plus, the FFG art showed us that not every RG TIE had the fins. Do the pilots on the card art have the fins? No. It's just a little extra upgrade that they chose to use for the title. The interceptor's that are 'royal guard' (RGP, Kanos, Jax) arn't at all different stats or upgrade-wise to normal Interceptors.

With all the extra stuff the SF TIE does in the film (bottom turret, 2 pilots), and the physical changes, that to me screams a new ship sculpt and diff pilot card stats. Not just a title.

Correct. That astromech appears to be after performing some kind a maneuver, acquire a TL. This is a going to be a GREAT astromech at 1 or 2 points. I'm hoping the TL is gained after ANY maneuver, as Y-wings have a horrible selection of greens.

One of the unique TIE is revealed Omega Leader, two are not. One of the X-wings is not, the PS 7.

Omega leader with PTL Comm and TIE title could be an end game nightmare
