T-70, TIE/FO expansion packs announced

By Danthrax, in X-Wing

Man. There aren't even any different pilots from the Core Set.

I definitely think I'm picking up a damage deck from ebay then and skipping Core Set 2 altogether.

Umm, all the uniques are different.

It's great against low-agility ships. And another EPT that works well on titled A-Wings.

PTL and Juke. Take Focus/Evade. Swarm a low-agility ship and strip an evade off each time.

Also these packs come with diff pilots from the Core. Poe isn't in the expansion set for example. Only the generics are repeats (as always)

I like Comms Relay as you can always enter battle with an Evade already. Makes the action a lot better. On paper putting it on Omega Ace with PTL sounds pretty solid. Evade first turn, then TL + Focus when you are attacking. On turns where you don't have a target in sight, TL + Evade. Rinse Repeat.

Integrated Astromech is okay. I don't think it will cause you to see a bunch of Rookies flock to the table, but it does help a couple named pilots.

Tarn + R7

Biggs + R4-D6 (he's now even more annoying)

Wedge + PTL + R2

Really like it on Wedge. Could possible keep him alive 1 more round. Which means the potential for something of your opponents to die.

Biggs + R4-D6 + Integrated Astromech was the first thing I thought of.

So Luke can Juke, but he can't Sloop? That's poop.

Shoop Da Whoop!

Don't know how you do the voodoo that you do

So well it's a spell, hell, makes me wanna

Oh and since the T-70 can also take it it negates any closing of the gap between them.

The T70 can take it, but it doesn't want to. They're probably going to want to spend the two points for Autothrusters.

This is a very surgical fix. It helps the lower PS generics by giving them just a slight bump in durability for as low as one point. Players can now decide if they want to use a T-65 with an R2 Astromech and Integrated Droid for 22 points, or spend 26 points for a Blue Rookie with Autothrusters. It also doesn't really help the higher-PS aces like Wedge, Wes or Luke, as they'll probably all want Engine Upgrades.

FFG is good at specific fixes.

Eh, could still pair it with any of the 'discard' EPTs. IE., R2-D6 with Crack Shot or Adrenaline Rush, for example. You get your once-a-game ability, and then can discard the droid to cancel a bad crit without losing anything.

Yeah, R2D6 and Crack Shot was where my mind went immediately.

Or R2-D6 and, say, 'Draw Their Fire' - by the time you are considering chucking a droid to avoid another hit, you are probably not interested in pulling damage from anyone else, any more.

Actually, that's an interesting thought.

If I had R2-D6 and 'Draw Their Fire' on the same ship...could I use DtF to pull a crit over from a nearby friendly, then chuck the droid to cancel it? That seems...like it might have some potential.

Love the combo of R2-D6 + Draw their Fire + Integrated Astromech. Very nice!

Your X-wing bump isn't an Xwing bump it doesn't do anything to bring the ship back out of storage and back to the table where it belongs. I'm not going to drop my shield upgrade to dump R2D2 into space it's not worth it. Make an X-Wing aces pack and try again.

Wow, a guy with 2 posts, no apparent game design credentials, and a very strong opinion on something that was literally just revealed and no one has played yet.

I think that second Astromech might say after you perform a green? maneuver get a target lock? Based off what I can see of the text, seems like it'll be called targeting Astromech or similar.

It's:

After you execute your

maneuver, you may acquire

a target lock.

I'm guessing 2-3 points.

That fix is not impressive at all... Taking up a modification slot when you want to put AutoThrusters on the T-70 is just dumb... No one is going to run that mod over autothrusters... And for a T-65, great, we still have an overcosted ship that has no ability to reposition itself natively... Just amazing...

Barely started reading the article and was expecting lots of negative posts about the "fix."

OK, but you guys are the ones calling it a "fix." It's just another upgrade for X-wings, take it or leave it. Nobody has suggested in any official capacity the intent of the Integrated Astromech was to "fix" anything at all. :P

Fair point.

Obviously it's not really for the T-70. And if you think the T-65 is still overcosted after receiving essentially a free super shield upgrade (you can cancel your choice of critical hit), then I just don't know what to tell you.

Free shields are good shields.

...what? All the "named" pilots are different.

So juke is useless against evade tokens (attacker still mods first)

It's also useless against thrusters (specifies evades --> focus so no stealing blanks; activates before thrusters)

In essence, it only works against naked unreliable green dice

That's one useless ass ept if you ever run into me :P

If you don't look at their abilities, they might as well be the same. Omega Leader/Ace, Epsilon Leader/Ace, Zeta Leader/Ace. I understand the reasons, but it's still kinda lame. It's also going to be a pain to remember which is which.

Umm, all the uniques are different.

Wait, really? I thought they were already Zeta, Epsilon and Omega Ace?

So no special forces tie until wave 9?

At this point I am less than whelmed by the new movie stuff that tie with turret is my last hope.

There's only been one other named pilot from the toys, "Atsy." Dollars to doughnuts that he's the PS7.

Imperials are being broken into "Aces" and "Leaders." We had Epsilon Leader, and Omega and Zeta Aces. Now we get Omega Leader. Presumably, the other two are Epsilon Ace and Zeta Leader.

Except it's not Omega Ace, it's Omega Leader. Believe it or not, those are not the same thing.

And the battlefielld shall be filled with the squeals of ejected astromechs as they float away into the void.

"See you in wave 8!"

Nope. Zeta and Omega Ace and Epsilon Leader in the Core. Epsilon Ace and Zeta and Omega Leader in the Expansion.

So juke part 2

Ffg's clearly pushing the Omega Leader (el presidente, cause his/her ability is sweet) the new tech and juke

So you got a to and a stored evade. You got no mods and he's got no mods (ability)

Only omega says (can't modify any dice) and says nothing about dice results

Suddenly, c3po, evade; thrusters

...well PTL it is then :D

So no special forces tie until wave 9?

At this point I am less than whelmed by the new movie stuff that tie with turret is my last hope.

Same here. I was really hoping for a Special Forces Title for the FO in this xpac. But they are really uninteresting.

They can bond with all those poor Intelligence Officers dumped by Jerjerrod.

C3PO works, as he just adds an evade result to the dice roll. Evade tokens should also work, but may require an FAQ due to the Autoblaster precedent.

Autothrusters modify a blank to an evade, so they will definitely not work.

That will likely be its own expansion. The special forces tie is physically different then the regular ties, plus if Phasma ends up piloting one or some other character does...it might be wise to put her/him into that pack. Not to mention it will likely have a turret on the underside, plus more hull/shields. I'm not too hyped for wave 8 as of this moment. But I hope they have episode VII stuff on the burner for post release of the film.

Yeah model-wise they can't just put a title on the current TIE for the special forces. It's different enough to need a new model.

You'd rather have a 4-point upgrade than a 0-point upgrade that's strictly better? Please come join my local league.

I don't even see any TIE/FO pilots that aren't in the new Core Set.

I got my eyes checked last week for the first time in a couple of years, and it made a huge difference.

Also, the complaints about the 'generic' names for the named pilots, it isn't in FFG's hands. They have only been given certain names/characters, and being a new film without a bunch of EU around it (yet) most of the pilots we see flying in the film don't/won't have names.

I doubt Lucasfilm is going to let FFG randomly name characters from their new film.

They don't have to let them name characters from the film.

They could literally be ANY T-70 pilot in the galaxy.

Here's how licensing works:

  1. Lucasfilm says "You can use the same two pilots everyone else making toys has art for. No one else gets a name."
  2. FFG says "Yes, ma'am."

Yeah model-wise they can't just put a title on the current TIE for the special forces. It's different enough to need a new model.

I don't agree. The Royal Guard Interceptors are at least as different from the normal Interceptors, but all they got was a repaint.

Yeah still only planning to get the scum ships for wave 8 I just don't see myself using the fo or TAP and have no interest at all in the ghost.

I have to ask now, if you discard the EPT astromech, do you lose the EPT? Because if not, that's great.

Based on Epic, you would.

Sorry to dig up a post from several pages ago, but I don't follow. Help?

When you destroy one half of an Epic ship, it loses upgrade icons. You have to discard upgrades if you lose capacity for those upgrades.

Premonition: A new X-wing Pilot with the ability: You can equip an extra -astromech- upgrade. 2 astromechs plus integrated... cool !!!!

I liked all the news so far.The new imperial reinforcements are great to fill those 3-ships lists, hard to do with Empire without a Lambda or basic TIEs. And most of the new cards, pilots etc are removing lots of randomness to the game, thats so good :D
