T-70, TIE/FO expansion packs announced

By Danthrax, in X-Wing

More unique pilots with generic names? Have to buy the X-wings to get Weapon Guidance for our TIE/FOs?

Come on FFG, stop taking a ****.

Juke on the TIE advanced prototype with the V1 title works out pretty nicely.

Also, let's revive the debate about the TIE adv. Prototype taking the X1 title.

If it can't, then can the T-70 X-wing not use the Integrated Astromech that it comes with?

Well here is the rule:

Ship-type only:
This upgrade can only be
equipped to a ship of the specified type. If the
ship’s type includes the entirety of the restricted
type, it can equip that upgrade. For example,
a TIE/fo fighter can equip an Upgrade card
restricted to “TIE Fighter only.

In the article https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2015/7/31/xwing-out-of-hiding/ it is called the Tie Advanced Prototype. Does Advanced being shortened to Adv. have connotations for the upgrade, or is it to be considered the same word?

On the product page they also call it a TIE Advanced https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/x-wing/products/inquisitors-tie-expansion-pack/

Is Darth Vader actually an illegal ship to use because there is no dial that says TIE Advanced X1?

That X-Wing fix is neat! Nice and thematic. I suppose negating 1 damage is worth a hull shield upgrade, but you do have to lose the mech. Still, I'm excited to see if it makes a difference.

Edited your post. Like Chewy Crew, you can hold your astromech until you get that crit that you just can't afford.

Edit: Beaten by DailyRich and Vyrago.

wonder how that interaction with the Xwing mod will work (if it gets bombed) and has R5-X3 (TFA Droid) can you discard it for both effects or just one?

A bomb is not an obstacle.

That's the bullet point that denotes that it's a unique pilot (you can't have more than one of him in your squadron).

Yes, that was the joke, thank you.

ah... you forgot your /s

Nobody IRL can tell when I'm joking, so it seemed fair to stick with that online. :D

So basically 22 points for a 3 hull, 3 shield(negating a crit when you want to) is ok. I suspect people will use it but not competitively

FFG is really being stingy with the tech upgrade cards. First, only 1 copy of Weapons Guidance in the starter when all 3 ships can use it, and only 1 copy in the T-70 pack. The Tie/FO doesn't even come with a copy. They could have added a copy to the Tie/FO pack.

To be fair, it is a little better than just a straight shield upgrade, since you can save it til you want to spend it. It's kind of like a worse Chewbacca? It's a decent way to get the x-wing some more survivability, but I was also hoping for something like a Rogue Squadron title- some synergy or formation flying incentive would have been nice.

I like what I see, some cool stuff.

I'm betting (as the name looks VERY short) that the PS7 X-wing is Asty (the action figure pilot we've seen)

And that is a cool X-Wing 'fix' but I don't think that's THE fix/love Alex talked about at GenCon with Team Covenant.

I dunno as a fix it seems disappointing to me you have to spend a point on a mech so you can discard it.

That leaves it in the same place with no way to modify your final position.

Wow, Integrated Comms and Juke would both be GREAT for Kir Kanos.

Except he doesn't have an EPT slot.

Or a tech slot.

Um....so the TIE/FO really only comes with TWO upgrade cards??

I'm actually pretty happy with the X-Wing fix. I don't even have to proxy it. Just add a general rule in my head that if an X-Wing doesn't have a modification, then it can discard its astromech to cancel a damage card. Simple and effective.

Hm, could we use a pair of Red Squadron Veterans with Juke and Comm Relay, and get evade on them with Jan Ors crew somewhere. Not sure if that's even good.

I think that second Astromech might say after you perform a green? maneuver get a target lock? Based off what I can see of the text, seems like it'll be called targeting Astromech or similar.

That fix is not impressive at all... Taking up a modification slot when you want to put AutoThrusters on the T-70 is just dumb... No one is going to run that mod over autothrusters... And for a T-65, great, we still have an overcosted ship that has no ability to reposition itself natively... Just amazing...

Also, the complaints about the 'generic' names for the named pilots, it isn't in FFG's hands. They have only been given certain names/characters, and being a new film without a bunch of EU around it (yet) most of the pilots we see flying in the film don't/won't have names.

I doubt Lucasfilm is going to let FFG randomly name characters from their new film.

Okay - Now I'm betting we'll see X-Wing "fixes" in an X-Wing Aces pack that comes with both a T-65 repaint and a black & orange T-70.

The SpecForces TIE will most likely be its own blister.

oh look, more unique Aces and Leaders <_<

We couldn't come up with better names? Come on every single pod racer in The Phantom Menace had a name and place of origin. Please tell me that The Force Awakens can at least do better than The Phantom Menace!

Cool Hand + Luke = Failure to communicate.

I came here for this, and you did not disappoint.

Yeah, this isn't the X-wing "fix". This, and the astromechs, are just a nice little boost. Disapointing we only have 2 Tech upgrades, but what we have are cool. Comms Relay is going to be great on the FOs. Along with Juke.

Gotta love how they changed up the way they show the card fan ... now the highest PS pilot's name is totally covered. Dem Episode 7 spoilers.

What one can say, though, is that it is a really very short name, as the period is almost in the middle.

OK, but you guys are the ones calling it a "fix." It's just another upgrade for X-wings, take it or leave it. Nobody has suggested in any official capacity the intent of the Integrated Astromech was to "fix" anything at all. :P

Obviously it's not really for the T-70. And if you think the T-65 is still overcosted after receiving essentially a free super shield upgrade (you can cancel your choice of critical hit), then I just don't know what to tell you.
