Use the main page not the News page. News page has been a few days behind for a while now.

... Ace ... Leader ...

So ... no names or real call signs any more?

Seems like Disney isn't in the fluff of no-name characters... I am a bit disappointed about this.

More like they didn't give FFG enough info. Remember, this set was create around a year ago, when they were still fiilming. I doubt LFL had worked out the background characters names yet. And they weren't going to give FFG pics of the background info (especially since they had just started filming the main X-wing stuff about now).

I think it should be obvious how little FFG was able to use to create stuff, considering that they weren't able to use Poe's actual squadron name for the generics.

I would expect, when we get the alternate t-70 with the orange black scheme, that it will have more named pilots.

That X-Wing fix is neat! Nice and thematic. I suppose negating 1 damage is worth a hull upgrade, but you do have to lose the mech. Still, I'm excited to see if it makes a difference.

Does anyone else think the wording is slightly open to interpretation? Does "you" and "your" mean the player or the pilot/X-Wing ship. Is there any precedent (or previous card) that uses "you"/"your" to mean player or individual ship? Could someone try to Lawyer-Up and say that this card allows "you", the player, to stop any one damage card dealt (on any ship) to them by ejecting (discarding) any astromech (on any ship) they have on the table?

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction to stop this use of suicidal astromechs from saving any ship on the board from damage... .

New Rules Reference Page 2.:

CARD INTERPRETATIONS

Many Ship card abilities use the word “you” to refer

to the corresponding ship. Upgrade and Damage

cards that use the word “you” refer to the ship to

which the card is assigned.

Yeah, can't wait for "Black-Orange Ace" and "Black-Orange Leader". :P

They don't want a situation where people involved talk about a movie and it causes people not to go see it in theatres. Sush as with Josh Tank twittering like an idiot before Fantastic 4 premiered

I don't think it was so much that he talked about the movie before it came out, but that he talked about how bad the movie was before it came out.

the FFG art showed us that not every RG TIE had the fins. Do the pilots on the card art have the fins? No. It's just a little extra upgrade that they chose to use for the title.

In the lore that created the RG TIEs, they had fins.

The card art doesn't have fins because they knew the models wouldn't have fins. Every image before those cards though has fins. It's basically just FFG covering it's own ass. "Our models are just Interceptor repaints, so make sure the cards match that." It's FFG rewriting lore to match it's product line.

With all the extra stuff the SF TIE does in the film (bottom turret, 2 pilots)

The 2 pilots won't necessarily effect gameplay though. After all, the Y-Wing doesn't have a Crew slot, even though they have co-pilot/gunners.

It remains to be seen whether the turret will be an actual Turret slot, or just an auxiliary rear firing arc.

So far, my only issue with these expansions is the high probability I never figure out which "Ace" and which "Leader" does what, and then getting my Epsilons, Omegas, and Zetas mixed up.

"Oh, cool, you're flying Omega Leader. I'll have to make sure you don't get that nasty focus and target lock combo then! Oh, that's not how he works? OH! That's Omega ACE. Right right. And Zeta Leader too eh? Might as well call him captain barrel roll, am I right? Oh, that's not how his ability works? Hmm... Let me look at that one more time..." And then I'll proceed to get those two mixed up mid game as well. What a headache.

ah it's not that bad

it goes Leader > ace

the Leader is the only one that really matters :P (except for Zeta ace, he's going to be an annoying little bugger ;))

going by their thus far spoiled abilities (which is really only omega leader and ace), the Aces have minor versions of their leader's ability maybe (one set isn't exactly a trend...)

If Zeta Leader gives friendlies free barrel-rolls, I will legit squeal with happiness

Epsilon Ace, though...he's a PS 4 (same as Omega Squadron) so the chance he has an ept are basically zilch if he also ends up costing 17 points. Epsilon leader has ultra wingman, so if I had to guess Epsilon Ace would ditch stress for a benefit off of himself. Without an ept for ptl, though...

I really wish they waited til Ep 7 to release this stuff. The release and announcement schedule's getting pretty crowded and it's hard to be excited for everything when there's so much coming, and realistically it'll be a while before I can buy/try it all out.

The name thing is also super annoying. Waiting til the movie was out could probably have solved it, but keeping all the Leaders and Aces and various colors straight is kind of a pain, and at least to me dilutes the fun of having a named pilot. Even a callsign like Whisper or Echo has more character than a designation like Blue Ace...

Sorry to dump a load of negativity in here. The ships look super cool, I just wish they had been handled differently.

OK....one thing I have to say to everyone complaining about the generic names.....how long did it take to actually get names and background stories for all these other pilots in Ep IV? I mean, did they have Mauler Mithel or the rest of Black Squadron detailed when Ep IV came out? Did they have all the backgrounds and such for the other Rebel Pilots? They probably just had names because it sounded better and worked from there. How many years of EU did it take to get stories for all the Tie Fighters and Rebel pilots? You want Lucas Arts to come out with a great movie and all have the background for all the various pilots with names and everything now?

Personally, I'd rather leave it open until they come out with some other book or comic or movie that details them and we can go "Oooohh......so that's Zeta Leader! They are even cooler now!".

Besides that, I don't understand why anyone would take Cool Hand when you can take Wired? They are both one point. Wired lets you re-roll one attack or evade die when you are stressed. Cool Hand is discarded to give you a Focus. I can't think of a reason why you would want a Focus for one round over being able to re-roll a die. Am I missing something?

Omega ace isnt going to be annoying? FGD?

2-3 crits any given turn she/he seems fit?

Omega ace isnt going to be annoying? FGD?

nope

****'ll bounce off of green dice

Omega leader though, oh boy people are really going to feel my pain once they realize soontir can't modify **** :P

I know this is not FFG's problem, but it is curious they couldn't do any more with the names of these uniques, at least for the TIEs. I understand T70 Wingmen will probably be named, but "Dark Curse", "Backstabber", "Mauler Mithel" (and uh..."Moralo Eval", but heck Zuckuss, Bossk...) are never really called by name in the films, and naming them doesn't in any way reveal anything (and if it does, ie Backstabber...just make up a different spooky badguy name).

Come on, lets get some White Death (Omega Ace), Sandshrieker (Zeta Ace), Redeye (Omega Leader), and Buddysnuggle (Epsilon Leader). Heck, just use a more militaristic (Omega Commander/Omega XO) or religious (Omega Acolyte/Omega Paladin) designation, that way at least they're DIFFERENT than the T70 Ace/Leader pattern.

Unless of course I am totally wrong, Phasma and pals get a huge amount of screen time, and the movie goes into enough depth to make the rank and file First Order pilots something more than faceless targets and actually gives them names and a dash of personality. In which case...I am pleased.

is that FGD believing IN GREEN DICE? today is a momentous day. NOTE IT IN YOUR CALENDARS PEOPLE ITS GOING TO RAIN UP!

fickle green dice work both ways

problem is they never work the way you want <_<

He only trusts green dice to fail on his ships. He expects green to always hit against his ships.

I still like Omega Ace to land crits at Range 1 against the various big ships out there.

it'll depend greatly on the ships you're facing and the availability of new tech

Leader's jump to PS 8 is pretty huge as it puts him/her into V.I aggressor bid territory (along with stuff like cheri) and over Dash, and his/her ability is ruinous against those ships that spend all those points into dice modifications

hard to beat that for only 1 point more than Ace, though Ace's crits also have the potential to be very devastating against lower agility ships.

I just hope this doesn't come out till next year honestly for a few different reasons

1) It's going to be a really expensive wave.

First wave to have more than 4 ships.

The ghost alone will likely be the most expensive big ship due to coming with the extra ship.

2) I actually feel too much too soon.

The Raider right before wave 7 seems like a lot.

A lot of ships and not enough time to get to use them all

3) I hope the Gozanti is not released close to wave 8

all you gotta do is pace yourself :) stick to a faction and a preferred selection of models

for example, if the PS 7 T-70 isn't completely bonkers amazing and you don't fly old X-wings anyway, you can skip the T-70 pack at least

That and pacing. I still don't have all the ships in the numbers I want from Wave 4. So, I'm slightly behind. But there is a number that I can live with rather than want.

I know this is not FFG's problem, but it is curious they couldn't do any more with the names of these uniques, at least for the TIEs.

Because of Disney. Even if there are better names to call them, I think it's safe to assume that Disney doesn't want them out there yet.

But most likely, Tie Fighter pilots will be the same in TFA as they were in the other Star Wars movies, nameless and faceless ships to be destroyed by the heroes. There is quite frankly not enough time in a 2-2.5 hour movie to give a name let alone personality to a mook.

im all about the empire, ive only tangentially picked up other factions as per my need for upgrade cards.

Am I missing it or have FFG not mentioned the new damage deck yet? I only ask as in Oct I have a torny I would like to go to and I'm not sure I'll have the money for a new core set and the torny if they say the old one is out :/
