X-Wing ships in kit form...

By Dust Bunny 01, in X-Wing

While I enjoy painting and assembling myself, I think a big strength of X-Wing is the fact that you can just jump right in. It's a minis game that's managed to reach a lot of people that weren't into tabletop gaming before because of this, so I doubt there's going to be any changes to this.

I don't see the point. Lots of people like the prepainted minis. And if you want to paint them yourself, you can always just repaint them.

I would definitely buy terrain of FFG came out with it. Pre-painted of course. Turrets, asteroids, space bases, etc.

Wizkids(the old one) tried this when Mageknight was at its height. As I remember, it was a complete flop.

i personally am happy the minis come pre-painted. I was one of those guys, with a handful of squads painted and the rest some kind of corporate zombie army all marching along in long drab grey lines...

I do get the urge to paint the odd ship but i'm glad the rest of my squads don't have to suffer the same fate as my previous games whilst my apathetic procrastination marches on unabashed...

So do i agree? No. Do i think you're "delusional"...? No.

Enjoy you're re-modelling, the minis are easy to work on and things like Tie panels can be cut off, stripped, painted and re-pinned in place easily enough if thats what you want to do :D

I'm a commission painter.

I'd make more money from this.

On the other hand, it WOULD be cool to see some 'terrain' modeling stuff - turbolaser turrets, asteroids, debris, derelict ships, whatever. Maybe that would get around the licensing issues mentioned above?

There are plenty of people doing those without the need for buying a kit. It's probably less expensive, too.

Just don't love what I've seen so far (other than my Space Rocks asteroids with acrylic bases shaped like the tokens from the first core set, those are whipass).

That and I think it would be cool to see FFG produce some campaign packs or some such that are complemented by terrain features. Like a long, narrow game board with models of pipes and conduits and stuff, and roles for smashing into the walls, for simulating the attack on the second Death Star's reactor. Or maybe just the command tower section of a Star Destroyer to fly around. I dunno, I was just at an Epic tournament a few weekends ago that was part of a larger miniature gaming event and I got jealous of all the sweet 40k terrain and stuff like that.

I don't see that happening. The ships are the focus, not the terrain. I doubt that FFG is going to change their business model any time soon to include terrain when third parties are already doing it.
