My physical rulebook finally came yesterday, and as our current party includes a rock-tossing Ewok (don't ask...) one of the first things I looked at was the Move power. Lo and behold the Control upgrade that allows using objects to attack now requires a ranged combat check instead of a Discipline check. That's fine (it removes the ambiguity of adding ranged combat modifiers to a Discipline check), but what's the appropriate skill/characteristic to use? Agility?
Change in Move power from Beta to final book
My read is that it is Discipline check using Willpower since the Force User is focussing his will on throwing the rocks. You simply treat the roll as if it were a normal attack roll, including defence etc.
It's used the same way as in EotE/AoR/FaD Beta (still use Discipline and everything), it was just re-worded to try and clear up some confusion (though dropping that it's Discipline from the Power description kind of stirs up some more confusion on its own).
The Discipline skill description specifically states it's the skill to use when moving objects though if you need a hard reference point.
Yeah I'm not sure about being less confusing, but thanks for the clarification! I would not have thought to check the skill description as that seems like an odd choice to place that info.
Almost everyone agrees that it is misplaced. Hopefully it is added in future printings.
Our group had a some confusion over this very thing a couple weeks back. The F&D book just said to make a ranged combat check, but gave no indication of what skill to use. It seemed pretty confusing to us. Only by going back and looking at my EotE book did I realize that it should be discipline. Then I went and read the description for the discipline skill and saw that it clearly said Discipline should be used for throwing things at people.
This is an instance where I think their rewording actually caused more confusion then it solved.
