What if spending a Focus token only changed one [eyeball] result?

By Covered in Weasels, in X-Wing

I have a deceptively simple question for you all: what if spending a focus token only changed one of your rolled [eyeball] results? How would this affect your list-building and tactical decisions? Would it take some very popular options down a notch and make some uncommon choices more appealing? Would the end result be a more diverse tournament scene, or would the current top performers just find themselves replaced by slightly different ships?

I've been thinking about this recently because of the new core set and rulebook's release, which basically confirms that FFG did not consider this change worthwhile. However, I'm still interested to hear the opinions of people more experienced than myself.

The game would become much more defensive.

Evade action would gain a lot of value. Tie Fighter would only Evade because the end result would be the same, only better because you don't even have to roll a eyeball to add an Evade. Meanwhile, the opponent would have a little bit more trouble hitting him, because while the Tie would roll 3 dice + Evade, the attacker would only be able change one focus into a hit, so harder to get the three hit result.

Sensor Jammer would be borderline OP. Roll 3 attack dice, get a hit, a focus and a blank. Sensor Jammer switch your hit into a Eyeball and you can only convert 1 of the 2 with your token that you kept for this shot.

So, if Evade and Sensor Jammer would be better, I guess the Meta would be field with IG-88C and B with Sensor Jammer and Autothrusters. Try to hit them now.

Funny because the first couple of times I played this back in way one, we played that way.

I think alot of us did.

Guilty. Interestingly it made marksmanship uber powerful.

I laugh at your inferiority.

It's funny because lots of people think that even after I teach them how to play. It's like there's this hang up on 1 to exchange involved. I think of it as a token and an effect but i guess people with normal brains think of it like currency, spend one to get 1.

It probably wouldn't be good for the game. Pretty much all 3 defense dice ships (who couldn't take sensor jammer) would become much easier to kill (a better phrasing might be: even less reliable). TL and evade would get more use though.

Someone with better math skills will break it down soon I'm sure.
