How do all you Vader fans handle the 2 atk dice problem? That is what keeps me far away from vader. Maneuverable sure. But he hits like a mosquito.

How and why choose him over a ceptor or phantom?

Only 35 points and at pilot skill 11 he leaves everyone behind, sorta feels like the Phantom did before the nurf. I use to believe predator was the ept to run on him but vi has stolen my heart, hi Mr horn, whisper, sootier, chirpy, I will dodge your arcs and hit you first!

Take that 35 points and add:

Much fun to be had with this

The only bummer about Vader is he is still stuck with only 4 green maneuvers. Shooting first at a rebel captive, R3A2, Flechette Torps, and even Tactician can be a big nuisance for him since he needs Focus and/or Evade to stay alive until the endgame.

I also run Vader with Engine, but he is countered pretty well by stress builds, and at 35-37 points, that is bad news bears if he dies early, because he is almost exclusively in 2 or 3 ship lists. Regardless, I think both upgrades are viable, one keeps Vader's cost down, and the other makes him an excellent arc-dodger, but weaker against stress.

Is stressing Vader with DD really smart?

Plus if you are going mayor re-positional + stress taking maybe AC is a better choice that ATC.

I play in a small group (only three of us) and we haven't managed to get Vader on a winning side yet despite a number of attempts. He even lost when used on a doomshuttle. We put it down to the Advanced so with the Raider we thought it was his time to shine. With EU he zoomed across the board and one shotted my Scyk on R2, surely now he couldn't lose! The curse of Vader struck again tho as I managed to block him for three rounds until my Talonbone got him at range 1 and in the meantime I two shotted Rexler Brath with the other Scyk. Dark Curse didn't last much longer.

The use of EU was impressive but it did leave him a bit isolated so make sure he has backup
