Thoughts on that cluster bomb upgrade? I can't see myself ever taking it. I don't think it holds a candle to the other defensive retrofits.

All that crap about the assault version being too expensive at 114 and now the same people are just gushing with enthusiasm. Tsk tsk.

Like we didnt see that coming, seriously ![]()
Up to 7 squadrons per every activation (Bay + Raymus). Nice attack and solid defence. THIS is the dedicated "carrier" I needed.
I don't get it the image in the article shows only 4 for squadron not 5
True. Did that change?

Garbage, basically. I guess therre had to be some trash cards eventually!

the ****** thing can't even take projectors!

Uh, what?
I saw that ninja edit, you can't hide from me!
Edited by Bipolar PotterWell boys, I think its time I paint up my Rebellion. I think its high time we had some defectors. Mind you I think both of the large ships are great for what they are, but man, those broadsides make me excited/concerned.
I'm still way more interested in the mc30 over the 80

It was 5 when the article first came up. Now they have changed it to 4... Sad panda ![]()

They really need some QA for this. The 'leaked' card had 4, so this was expected to happen.
Well now I'm disappointed it doesn't have 5 squadron! Tut tut ffg ![]()
As soon as I saw that 5 I was suspicious, it seemed highly unlikely that the physical leak was entirely right, except for the squadron value. I see that they caught themselves. Probably from reading this forum.
Yeah, pretty sure they read the thread explosions immediately after a preview comes out ![]()

Edited by ExtropiaAnyone else notice the assault cruiser has a red square in the 3 bracket?
Does Ackbar's ability allow ships to attack at long range if they wouldn't be able to normally (ie, CR90-B)?
Nope.
From the FAQ
Q: If a ship’s attack would not include any dice, but the ship can add dice through a card effect, can it perform the attack?
A: No. If a ship does not gather any dice during the “Roll Attack Dice” step of an attack, the attack is canceled.

Their QA guy needs a reprimand and/or a pay raise.

it'll be five once yall add hangars, no big deal ![]()
4 Squadrons is still plenty after all them dice!
wait. the previews show the squadron value as 4 only.
Also. Hm.. I might actually want one of these now.
Also: Props to the writer! This was a great strategic article!
Now for the real zinger of a question:
will we ever not use Akbar?
yeah, 38 points but holy hell that's some super EA crap going down
it's like gluing the front arc of most rebel ships to their sides and then just whistling all the way home! (except it's one attack instead of two)
as far as I can see, it is more than worth it on everyone apart from the CR-90 and Nebulon-B who both kinda suck at broadsiding. It may also not be too great on the Torpedo Counter Shrimp (blue dice, no reds), but the Scout Counter Shrimp is throwing out 4 from the sides and that's kinda crazy.
the most unfortunate overlap in commander roles is Garm. He and Akbar love the same exact ships, one because of the broadsides and the other because of command 3. I wonder if the 13 point difference or some new sort of tech will leave Garm as a contender or leave him forgotten.
MM is still queen of the corvette, and she may have game with the Counter Shrimp (dem evades) as well.
General-D continues to be cheap, which means more squadrons to fill out that 133 cap I suppose.
then there's that Rikan guy? Personally, not a fan of the idea behind the ability so someone else should tackle it
Edited by ficklegreendiceDefiance + Leading shots means you can add a Blue die, which you can then spend to reroll everything. I think that is entirely worth it, especially if you're already firing 7 reds.
But most of all, I will enjoy Ackbar with my Gunnery Assault Frigates... 6 reds twice each!
Mmmm Rieekan Slash will be AMAZING!
Ackbar works well with a line of battle, but i certainly wouldnt touch him with Corvettes, Neb-B's or probably MC30's.
As mentioned, you LOSE firepower if you have more than 2 front battery dice, and can position to get 2 arcs. Corvettes and probably MC30's should have no issues at all doing this, basically ever. So paying 38 points to lose firepower seems....unwise.
Neb's just dont dare broadside period, unless you fancy losing them all in 1 return volley or something.
He certainly seems to be a no-brainer for many MC80 builds.
Only one i'm unsure on is Assault frigates, though i would lean towards him being the best. They DO lose firepower against single targets, but greatly increase their overall firepower if they take gunnery teams. And AF's are harder to double arc than the smaller ships, so it'd be a safer option for positioning.
Overall good, but not an auto-include. As it should be.
