I wonder, was the Rebellion ever able to rebuild the Republic?

By darkfortunex, in Star Wars: Armada

I believe they do.

A new Chancellor

Like so many others, Mon Mothma has found a new role within the New Republic. The once Senator is the Chancellor of the newly formed Galactic Senate, seated on Chandrila. Interestingly, the position still maintains the emergency powers granted by Palpatine… for now.

Brought the seat of government to her home town and kept "emergency powers". Hmmm, I guess I was giving her the benefit of the doubt when I joked that she would be the Robert Mugabe of the SW galaxy.

My understanding of Aftermath was she was trying to give up those powers, and slash the military down to 10% of what it was, and would do so at the earliest opportunity (which shocked her pro-military advisor)

Uh huh, suuuure.

Do you believe everything the Rebel propagandists tell you?

At that point, they're Government Propagandists.

I believe they do.

No, which is why I didn't care for anything in that entire book.

Still though, immediately reverting back to the weak and powerless Old Republic of Episode I would allow for a neo-Imperial movement to spring up 30 years later, which is kinda what I took as the point of that comment.

So I guess that brings me to the question or concern, did it never happen? Or are we just not hearing about it. I know we still have some 25 years of history to be fleshed out, but so far I'm concerned at the look of the things to come, an how they pertain to the future of the Republic.

Anyone else have any other idea's or wisdom even if they might be spoilery?

I don't know... but the prequels made me root for the empire if that's what the republic was like, bring on some empire.

The orginal movies made me root for the rebellion though.

I believe they do.

From what I've read she was reducing the central government's military by shifting the funding, equipment and personnel to local defense forces while still maintaining a central government fleet that was much stronger then the Old Republic's forces. If so they are basically doing what the New Republic did in Legends it is just that in canon we know exactly how much of the central military was returned to local control.

While the New Republic did decentralize the fleets, and push a lot of resources down to local and sector defense forces, the New Republic/Galactic Alliance Navy both were considerably stronger than the 10-20% of the post-Endor Rebel fleet. Even assuming the Rebels picked up a lot of support in the immediate aftermath of Endor, that's still a relatively small fleet, and nothing compared to the thousands of ships involved in the old EU's Battle of Courscant in Star by Star.

We never really have had a fully detailed list of what the rebel fleet had at Endor in canon other then knowing it was definitely bigger then what we saw on screen. However there is an excerpt from ne of the upcoming canon novels set in the gap between ANH and ESB that refers to the rebellion launching an offensive in the Aftermath of the Battle of Yavin involving "thousands of starships" so I think you might be underestimating their numbers especially if they gained more strength between Endor and the shift.

I'm gonna assume that number is an error of some kind. Many authors don't have a good grip of the scale of things. According to Wookiepedia, the Battle of Endor had 33 ISD present, and that's what the Emperor personaly summoned to protect DS2 and his own self from the rebel fleet, who knew he would be there.

If the rebels had "thousands of starships," I would have expected him to bring a few more defending vessels.

The answer will probably be revealed in EP. 7.
